  1. My thicknesser is a 10" jobbie. So I'm going to be 2 piece bodying (I was intending on neck throughs anyway B) )

At this size you get "portable" ones(they weigh a tonne). Once you start to get bigger than this then you're into the realm of floor standing units. This is way out of my league due to budget and most importantly my workshop being on the 3rd floor of my house.

Hold on, I'll find a link to the little beauty.

    EDIT: Here you go...

I also got the bench jointer :D

  2. As much as i despise Oasis, they are multi multi gazzilionaires, and had more then one album.

Sucked ass when they played at Glastonbury. Absolute dog toss. Aparently they had a row before going on stage (that'll make a change then :D )

As for Jet - yeah, they're alright. Unoffensive anyway.

As for the comments about music today being of the brown and squidgy variety....

.... well as long there was music, there was always crap. Look at the 60's - plenty of good music but then there was Lulu and Cilla Black, honest to god Cilla goddamn Black. Take the 70's and Donny sodding Osmand etc etc. There are plenty of decent bands now:

    Kings of Leon

Snow Patrol (wasn't really a fan until I heard the awesome new album)

    Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

    The Zutons

    just to name 4

    snow patrol! oh come on.

That's what I would have said, until I listened to the new album (or maybe it's the first album) :DB)

Oh, I forgot about British Sea Power

  3. Tell you what, if it's not gone by pay day I'll have it.

Don't worry about it if someone else jumps in and has it because I haven't started the project that will need it yet. I'd prefer someone to use it instead of it sitting in a box at my house until I need it.

Pay day is in 3 weeks BTW

  5. Well I'm back at work today, got in this morning and my bandsaw has arrived over the holidays B) It's only little but I hope that it should do the job (if I'm careful with it).

Over the holidays, I was intending on building a workbench, so I went to the DIY shop and tried to buy the stuff. Unluckily though, they no longer have the facilities to cut wood to length so that I could fit it in the girlfriends tiny car :D . In the end I had to buy a flat pack workbench, which is very cheep and cheerful but it should do the job (once I put a vice on it anyway).

I've also taken over a set of draws that were in the spare bedroom and are now full of plans and sandpaper.

I've also put two big holes in the side of the duvan bed so that I could keep tools in there :D. After a bit of rejigging of the bedroom, I know have a workshop and there isn't really much else I have to buy (exept for maybe a door and a shopvac)

    Pics soon :D

  6. Most of the new tools arrived this morning - Thicknesser, Planer/Jointer and pillar drill.

    Got two problems though:

    1) I think I over estimated how much space there is in the spare room :D This will take a rethink and a bit of moving stuff around. I'm definately going to have to build a work bench (or preferably a shed)

    2) The thicknesser came in about 20 parts. Mainly due to the massive hole in the side of the box causing the on/off button box to be shattered. There is also something big, metal and yellow floating around by the mechanism so I don't think I'll turn it on. Well actually come to think about it, I can't turn it on because the buttons missing. B)

Oh well gives me time to think about where to put all this stuff. I'll try to post some pics of the rather small work room after christmas.

  7. If you're not intending on giving it back to the owner (or can't find them) what I'd do is this:

First of all don't tell anyone, secondly, stop putting it on the internet for everyone to read that you're guitar has been ripped off. Third, don't tell anyone.

There you are, a beginners guide to handling stolen goods :D

  8. I'm sure that you'll need both pieces (although I have a funny feeling that you can get combines ones - but could be wrong on that one).

If you use the stop piece only, you'll be asking for trouble. You can't intonate the strings.

How about using just the bridge and passing the strings through the body, if that's the look you're after?

  9. Alright guys,

I'm going to be starting my bro's new axe soon and to cut a long story short, I just can't be arsed building the neck for it.

Has anyone got a BC Rick Warlock neck floating around (preferably that's not attached to a body)? There's money waiting (well there will be come pay day)

    Cheers guys.

    Kaj

  10. Personally (and I'm certainly not experienced in this - infact I'm a bit of an idiot, but here goes anyway)

If you are using that method, I would let them float until you've found the correct distance between the strings and the pup (or atleast the one you are happy with). Then with a bit of simple maths, I would make some spacers that go under the pups and link them to the body for better vibration transferance to the pups.

Well like I said, that's just how I'd do it.

  11. Heres another tip:

MAKE A TEMPLATE - You will only get it sort of symetrical on the bandsaw. What you really need to do is make a template and cut the body down (after bandsawng) with a flush cutting bit.

As you're doing a double cutaway (like I am) you only need to make 1/2 of a template and flip it over around the centre line and you will have a perfectly symetrical axe.

    Good luck dude

    Kaj :D

  12. Yeah, what you want to do when you're removing lots of wood is to use the forstner bits on a drill press (hopefully yours has a depth stop as well) to remove as much as possible, then clean up the edges & bottom of the rout with a proper router.

And certainly don't use a spade bit (like I did when I wasn't paying attention and I now have three little holes on the from of my guitar B)

One thing that I have found good, that's sort of related. I have now got a router and table (the router has 1/4 inch collet). I also have some of the drum sandersthat fit in a pillar drill (that have 1/4inch shafts). So I can now put these in my router and use them on the table. Should be very handy indeed :D especially as the chuck of the drill press has a tendance to come off (just a Moores Taper :D )

  13. and that the nagging isnt too bad B)

There’s no worries about that as she’s amazingly tolerant of my antics. She doesn’t really moan when she comes home and I’m sawing wood on the workmate in the front room. Christ, she hardly moaned when my porch was full of motorbike and the kitchen had an exhaust on the floor. Or there's the time that.........

    .........you get the idea :D

Cheers for the congrats guys, it means a lot.

Now if only I could shift this damn hangover and get rid of the taste of champagne….. :D
