that all sound good for sure.

do you have space for the cnc and dust collection. and can you get the electric hook up you will need. do you know how to program it your self.

I work in the furniture shop and the dust collection thing is a must for a good one.

do you have any prices on tooling.I know for a fact that some of the tooling is not cheap.

if you could do it for around the same as warmoth man that would be awesome. I think you would have more work then you know what to do.

I made a Paduak finger board for my prs project and it works great.I put a little tung oil on it but you don't have to do anything.

you are smart to try this on a cheap guitar and get the feel of the tool your using.

I just posted walnut maple project

I have 2 single coil and a humbucker to use on this one.

here is my new project. the top is curly walnut with curly maple.

the back will be mahogany.

the top is glued together from scrap I found at work that would have been in the fire pit if I did not grap it for this project.

tru oil is nice and easy to work with.

you can do a french polish. now don't get all how do I do that .

all french polish is varnish that is mixed with acohol and wiped on with a cloth same as tru oil

what I can tell you is carvin makes a twin coil that are vary hot and sound great

I just played a guitar last night with carvin pickups.with the M22SD and 2 AP11

the m22sd sounds great thick humbucker sound and the ap11 sound like a strat.

the birds eye maple would tie in to the body and as soon as I can fid out how I will post a picture.

the body is curly walnut with birds eye maple. if the fret boars is birds eye then it would look cool

Hi I have been reading post here for a few months and have found a ton on great info.

this is my first post and I hope I have do everything correct.

first a little about myself

I have worked in furniture shops for 20 years. on breaks and lunch I can use the machines to do my guitar projects. I have been building guitar for a few years now and have all the building steps down good and have as nice shop at home as well.

I have search here for info on finger boards if it is out there I just did not find it.

now here is my question

I make my own fret boards

I sand all fret boards to 1/4 thick and all the fret boards have turned out nice.

I have always used quarter sawn finger boards. I have a vary nice piece of birds eye maple that is flat sawn could I use the maple for a finger board on a guitar.

any input would be cool.

I'M going along with godin sd and what is said about guitars sounding different depending on the amp and how it is set up. there are so many different ways to set up amps it not funny.

I know your question is about the choice of guitar but spend some time with your amp and getting the most it will give you.

a good feeling guitar is a must no dought

I use everything strats, tele,and prs all play a part in the gig.

some gigs a strat work all night then other times a tele is the wepon of choice

if you other guitar player plays a les paul all the time I say a strat or tele wound have a nice fit. if your playing rock stuff, slightly country flavored the combination between the les paul and strat/tele I say would be way cool.

do research on compressor.

I have a small one with 2 tube like air tanks on the side. I use it for everything from air for tires and spraying finish with no trouble.

you don't need a huge compressor to get a good finish.

I use 35-40 psi when spraying finish and that migfht be to much.

Hi marco I would say if your getting a warmoth body to go with a warmoth neck. they will fit like a glove.

body wood

I like alder this was use on some of the first tele and strats guitars leo fender made.

alder has a nice warm sound and ash is a little brighter I think.

swamp ash is lighter in weight and has a nice sound.

I guess it depends on what your sound your going after.

I don't know if you have thought about the fret board rose wood sound different then maple.

buiding your own guitar takes some practice for sure. if you not sure on what to do this is the place to ask questions. if your think you want to builds from parts.

I would go with warmoth.

they have proven to be of high quality bodies and necks.

if you look around on warmoth web site there is all different neck contours to choose.

same with the bodies you might want a tummy cut on the tele body and they can do that for

you.

I use a couple different lengh bits.

a small one to get started.rout all you can then if you take the template off you use the part

you just routed as your guide and rout from there with the longer bit.

you should have no trouble with this.

I use 3/4 ash top for my prs copy. and the back is 1 inch thick

I made it a carve top with 1/4 maple edge all around so it looks like binding.

the maple edge is larger around the neck.
