  1. Hey guys, sorry it took so long to reply to post, I have a lot of stuff going on. Anyway, I have 3 braces on the top and two on the bottom running the width of the guitar. I added extra support where the ferrules are ( yes those are ferrules not screw holes). The wood is probably a little thicker than I should have made it, roughly 3/16, but it actually helped eliminate the need for any additional bracing because the sides were thick enough to really form a bond with the top when glue was applied. I decided to go ahead and put a piezo pickup and 4 band pre amp in it. I also ordered gold hardware for it. Midway through the project, I decided that I would give this guitar to my wife because of the short scale, and the fact that I promised her the next one I built would be for her ...(oops). I went ahead and inlaid her initials in the headstock (first attempt at inlays, outside of fret dots) which actually didnt turn out too bad. Ive had it strung up already and it sounds pretty good. I will post some pictures soon, probably within the week as I am currently in the fininshing stage and just waiting for the third coat of poly to dry. Thanks for the positive feedback guys
  2. Hey guys, this is the third project for me. 22 1/2 scale acoustic flying v made from black walnut. Kinda got the idea from the Dean V Coustic. I think Im going to leave it 100% acoustic, no pickup though. Link is posted below, comments welcome later http://www.rcguitars.zoomshare.com/1.shtml/Acoustic%20V
  3. Got a little more progress done the past two days. Routed the control cavities and made their covers, cut out the headstock, got the fretboard on and some dot inlays. Didnt want to do anything too tricky with the inlays because Ive never done them before, so just kept it simple. As always comments welcome LINK http://www.rcguitars.zoomshare.com/1.shtml...Walnut%20Guitar
  4. Actually, most of the stuff I build is out of walnut because I bought a very large quantity of it for cheap,... but this leopard wood is far more dence than the walnut I normally work with or even maple for that matter. As far as dips, I think you are reffering to all the spots in the wood. You dont feel them at all,... even without sanding. They do however look three dimensional after they are sanded and have a couple coats of clear on them. But I was actuall shocked when I bought this wood at how dense and rigid it is. Im not going to use it for the fingerboard though, for that I will just use rosewood.
  5. Got some more work done on this project. Got the pickup cavities and neck pocket routed out as well as cut out the shape of the body. Also, I have the neck cut out and the radious carved out and roughly sanded. Havent decided on a shape for the head yet though. I also got the truss rod channel routed out. As always, comments are welcome. LINK http://www.rcguitars.zoomshare.com/1.shtml...Walnut%20Guitar
  6. Well I was wondering around the internet one night and came across a carving duplicator some guy built to duplicate furnature and the thing looked pretty straight forward to build so I set aside the current project I had been working on, ordered a few parts and a through one toghether to duplicate guitar necks and bodies. I just happened to have a Saga LP kit laying around that i've never bothered to put together as well as a stockpile of walnut taking up a large portion of my shop, therefor my first duplicate is a walnut LP. The only real dilema I have come across is getting a channel for the switch wires to run to the pots, being that LP's are made in two pieces and the channel is routed before they are put together... but my project is made out of one solid block. I had to assemble a couple drill extenders and drill my way through which was not as easy as I thought it would be. Anyway,... heres the link to my walnut LP and my duplicator. Questions and comments welcome. http://www.rcguitars.zoomshare.com/1.shtml...ut%20Les%20Paul
  7. O.K. guys, this is my second project. It is going to be a Leopard Wood/Walnut solid body, single cut away. The front side will be mostly leopard wood and the back mostly walnut with each having either walnut or leopard wood veneer strips in the center. The neck will be the same. So far Ive just got the blanks glued up and the body shape drawn out, I started this project but got side tracked by a third and fourth project which I will also post. I built a carving duplicator and started duplicating a Les paul, anyway... questions or comments welcome. Heres the link http://www.rcguitars.zoomshare.com/1.shtml...Walnut%20Guitar
  8. Sorry guys, I didnt realize I had that link password protected, it should work now
  9. O.K. guys, this is my first attempt at building a guitar, or any musical instrument for that matter. I have alot of free time during the day because I work nights, and was wanting to take up playing the guitar when I wasnt building casino tables (another hobby) but when I went out looking at guitars I just couldnt justify spending the money on something I figured I could build on my own, so I bought "Make your own electric guitar" by Melvin Hiscock and got to work. All wooden components of the guitar were made by myself, everything else was purchased at Guitar Center or online at Stewart MacDonald. I didnt want to spend a fortune on the hardware and electrical components because this being my first attempt, I didnt know if would play in tune or play at all for that matter, but much to my suprise, it actually sounds and plays pretty good. I actually have alot of freinds that play and a couple of them now want me to make them a knock off of their favorite guitar. Anyway, it was a great learning experience and I look forward to making the next one. Questions and comments are encouraged Oh ya, heres the link to the images : http://www.rcguitars.zoomshare.com/1.shtml...2025%22%20scale Specs are as follows: ------------------------ 25" scale Solid walnut body and neck Two tone walnut/maple fingerboard and headstock Hot rod two way adjustable truss rod 3 way adjustable switch Dual volume and tone controls Two Duncan Performer Detonators pickups Tune-o-Matic bridge and 'stop' tailpiece Jumbo frets Hand made clear plexiglass top nut Ping machine heads DR strings
