I am currently making an SG, but I found out that near my house is a G & L workshop. I am going to go ask them if they would be willing to let me use their finishing facilities, but was wondering if anyone thinks they would allow it, and if so, how much they would probably charge me if at all. Thanks!

So I have been working all weekend, and I have FINALLY thinned the guitar down to the right thickness. I had to do this by hand, using a plane, because I don't have access to a planer or the like. Also, I have began carving the bevels, I finished the front, and started the back. Let me know if pictures are wanted.

Personally, I don't like any of them, but really, I think if you are going to buy a guitar, you shouldn't ask others which to buy, but rather, ask them for reviews of the guitars you are considering. Don't let other people make decisions for you. Good Luck with your search.

I was just looking at HuntinDoug's website(parableguitars.com), and he has done a couple of red, ruby-ish inlays. you should definitely PM him to see what he does! Good luck!

I am wondering, why would you choose ruby as an inlay material, I mean wouldn't that be really expensive? I agree with tirapop's idea. Good luck, be sure to post when done!

Personally, I think Seymour Duncans tend to have a wider ability to adapt with the playing style, and I do agree I think EMGs sound like overdistorted crap. But, what do I know, I'm just a classic-hard rock guitarist.

Ok. so this may seem like a stupid question to some of you veterans, but, since I will have 3 HB sized pickups, all mounted with rings, like Gibson does, what size mounting ring do I use for the middle pickup? All I have been able to find are for the neck or bridge. Thanks in advance!

BTW, AC/DC is not Hair Metal. They are just rock. if you must subcatergerize them, they are either Aussie Rock, lol, or Hard Rock... psh!

I got some pictures of the guitar all glued together, spare the headstock. I have yet to blend all the parts together, and I need to take about 8mm off in thickness.

Most 60's SGs were mohogany, but they did a run of development versions in Korina, And they released a special edition. Both are very good and very valuable. My guitar is heavily based off of what Les Paul originally designed: Neck Thru.

Yea, korina is what gibson calls it, and limba is what it is really called. its is 100% white limba, the same stuff gibson used on the legendary 60's models of the sg, explorer, and flying v.

Today, I glued the body wings to the neck, and will have pictures when it is all dried tomorrow or maybe saturday.

The Plan:

So I am building an all Korina, Neck-thru SG with a ebony 24-fret fingerboard, Kahler 7300 Trem, A Gibson '57 Classic in the Bridge, A Gibson P-94(P90 in a HB Size) in the Middle, and a Seymour Duncan Custom Custom HB in the Neck. They will be on/off controlled with push/pull pots. (no switchwasher). I am going to have Sperzel Trim-Lok Tuners, a GraphTech Nut, and StewMac's LP Custom Inlay Set. Whew.

What's Been Done so Far:

I have rough cut the body wings, cut the Fingerboard, mounted the truss rod, and shaped the neck @ 90%.

Hi. I am in the process of building a Korina Neck-Thru SG with a Bigsby Vibrato. I was trying to decide the best approach to making the neck angle, when I wondered about recessing the bridge. But does anyone know if there will be enough tension on the bridge if I do this?

I would highly recommend korina, it is very easy to work with, comparable to mohogany, but sounds a WHOLE lot better. It rings like you wouldn't believe, and is also very light. GL with your project! Be sure to post pics!

Damn, man, I have NEVER seen a sexier strat. I absolutely love your work. Currently, I'm woring on a neck-through korina sg, and i would really like to see some photos of your build progress, if you have any. But, holy crap, that is one beautiful guitar. BTW, how long did it take to build? I like the controls too. Very nice choice of wood, neck style, electronics, etc. It reminds me of SRV's strat, but new, and nicer! Congrats on one kick-ass build!

Yeah, I started to think the same about messing with a classic like an SG, so I decided to give the project the direction of an SG the way Les Paul intended (Neck Thru) and giving it electronically the tonality I have been longing for in a guitar.

@Midnight Lamp The link is down, but I have decided to drop the omega hole due to the difficulty of making a hole that large perfectly symmetrical.

Also, I decided to switch to push-pull pots instead of switches, making the electronics simpler, and a P-90 or P-94 in the middle position, to make the pickguard cleaner looking (I'm looking for a 3 HB SG Pickguard). BTW, this is a neck-thru design, as Les Paul originally intended it to be!

Thanks, I guess your right, I think I will just do the fretwork myself.

About the supreme neck, I realize that would be incredibly difficult, I've started to think about making a neck, and buying a pre-fretted fingerboard, cause I'm still not comfortable with fretting a fingerboard.
