I posted a while back a bunch of questions about people's opinions on different amps but i couldn't reap the information because my internet stopped working thanks to AOL. Anyway i was loking to get a decent tube sound on the cheap and i came across this Leak TL12 Plus mono power amp. Its an old 60's hifi amp and since its a mono could i just use it with a preamp and a cab. Also the website http://home.mira.net/~kiewavly/TL12.html says it has an output of 12 watts. is this going to be too quiet? can i beef it up? Since i'm getting this dirt cheap any mods are viable. Cos its made for hifi its got 0.1% distortion which is obviously not great. Will my preamp take care of the distortion? If not what can i do. Any advise about this thing will help me alot as i no next to nothing about amps. Cheers, Sam

Hi, all. I've been playing for about a year and a half and whilst I have already upgraded my gutar (From a fender squier strat to a burny LP custom) I'm still using my crappy fender 10/15W amp. I'm looking for a new setup for not too much maybe £300. I was wondering whether i could just get an all tube preamp and then a cheaper solid state amp?Or possibly even a Decent all tube effects like the damage control womanizer or liquid blues? The body is mahogany with a maple top and the neck is hard ample with rosewood fretboard. Its an LP style. Im looking for a deep rocky tone although intend to have one of the pickups lighter to add versatility. I've got my own ideas about the pups though im open to suggestions. I also wanted somebodies opinion on the jimmy page style wiring although don't know anything about it so i don't know whether i would be able to complete it myself. Hope that helps you answer if not please ask anymore questions! ps. im not sure whether i want active or passive as im not sure of the different tones they produce. Sorry.

This is my first post so hi everyone and great forum I've searched around and can't find the answer so can anyone tell me how electronics (apart from obviously pups) affect tone. Since i don't have the time to build everything myself i'm buying a used body and a mighty mite neck and fitting all the electronics myself. Any help or advise is welcom/ Thanx
