  1. you're right. I was thinking the Jem7 was..7string. Yeah, i'm just saying..mines not as cool..cuz its just 2D not all 3D and rendered ..i couldn't even guess on how to do that. http://home.rgv.rr.com/kingv1474/WizardNeck.dxf
  2. pagemaster; thats a 7string. mines 6. alex: yeah..mines not 3d
  3. I just finished making one in acad, kinda rough...should be near perfect (used .000(0) as much as I could based on math and information given) Only problems are the AANJ heel on the neck, dunno the specs on that...and prolly couldn't make it if i wanted to...so the bolt part is gonna look kinda wierd. And I don't know how to do the back 'radiuss', I dunno what it is, so its square in the back... I'll upload it for those that want it, tomorrow, unless I'm asleep all day, which i just might be...its 5:40am my time.
  4. hmmm... I have a Black And Decker Wizard.. It's head is angled, its small device. I dunno if its small enough/powerful enough to drill in a cavity though.. You could try it? http://www.blackanddecker.com/ProductGuide...PRODUCT_ID=3157 maybe that flexable dremel adapter + some drill bit adapter? I dunno, I haven't started making a guitar yet. But..you're question...hopefully will save me time when i get there.
  5. So real router instead of dremel for routing the cavities. Gotcha. prolly use that B&D Wizard for cleaning up / polishing whatever. Could I use that for fret slotting? I doubt it...huh? I have a handheld sander also. I guess i can use that for overall sanding. And a smaller battery powered sander. I have a jigsaw. I guess that would be my best bet for cutting out the general shape of a guitar? And then use the hand held sander to sand it down to the right shape? Would you recommend using a plywood template? or glueing down a paper outline (from ACAD, thanks to AlexVDL)?
  6. well different pickup manufactures have different color coded wires. So i could say 'red is hot' 'black is ground etc...but it'd be for that particular pickup. You're best bet is to go to that manufacturers website, and look for the schematic you need. It'll tell you what color wire goes where and what it is. like http://www.dimarzio.com/w_d.html You really don't need to know what they do, unless you wanna learn about induction and magnetic fields and yadda yadda. Here's a quick guide on how to solder: http://www.aaroncake.net/electronics/solder.htm Based on your english skills, I'm assuming you're not from the US. So, I couldn't tell you where to go to find a soldering iron and tools. An electronics supply store like www.radioshack.com will have them. But not like consumer electronics (like TVs/VCRs)..
  7. Is this all thats needed to make a guitar? http://dremel.com/productdisplay/tool_kit_...02&Color=99CCFF I think we have a Dremel ripoff, not sure. I'll have to look. http://www.blackanddecker.com/ProductGuide...PRODUCT_ID=3157 18k Rpm ...i dont think it'll be useful much?..perhaps polishing or something/ I dunno about how to cut the outer shape out, I used a jigsaw right now on a piece of plywood w/ a drawing on it....i made it a lil over sized in order to sand down and use as a template for when i get the real wood. I tried using a Ryobi SpeedSaw http://www.ryobitools.com/product/product....cat=2&toolcat=4 but the supplied bit (which looks to me to just be ar egular drill bit)...broke in half. I was using the 1/4" plywood bit. Looking for a replacement, i came across a package for a 1/8" drill bit and it mentioned using cutting oil (but on metals) is cutting oil necessary for wood? Also it said 'plywood bit", what (if anything) would I use on like alder or poplar or mahogony etc? Or should I just grin and bear it and take it to a shop and have them cut out the outer shape? And if so, what would I have to do to prepare the wood for it to be easy for them? like...take the template? or ACAD file? or drawing onto the wood? I'd really rather do all the work myself (at least on the 1st one), but if its just not possible..then i'll take it to a pro. The pickup routing and all that stuff, SHOULD be able to be done w/ the dremel-like tool right? Maybe the speed saw if i learn how to use it w/ breaking bits ?
  8. thanks a bunch. About how long does it normally take a 100% beginner to complete a guitar? I'm think its gonna take ME..about 2-3months.
  9. you didn't have to.. I was willing to do it myself (and i did).. but i guess mine was too off? or you couldn't open it to check it? (I'd still appreciate it if someone would though..just for my own curiosity). I dunno, but thanks . At least I tried, right?
  10. try this one? I dunno if its the right one or not...i dont have 14 to open it to check http://home.rgv.rr.com/kingv1474/JPM-OriginalFloyd.dxf ?
  11. can someone do me a favor..and just double check this? http://home.rgv.rr.com/kingv1474/JPM-OriginalFloyd.dwg I took the single hum dwg file Alex uploaded for someone, added a second hum, moved controls and used some dimensions i found in the 'trem route' thread to add an Original Floyd.
  12. oh ok. Thats kewl. But could you upload the one intended for the download section somewhere else for those of us that lack download forum access? I'll edit it myself to what I want. Thanks anyway.
  13. welll..since your editing ur cad for people..woulda ya mind one more? its not that much..just w/o the lions claw and middle position single coil and controls ala JPM100. Also, is the bridge cut out made for an Original Floyd or Ibanez LoPro?Edge? I guess i can just remeasure for whatever I end up with Thanks. Could yo ucheck out my Jackson KV10X thread? Maybe make that a lil more accurate? I'm not nearly as well versed in ACAD as you seem to be. I just used a picture I found.
  14. Here's something I've been working on for the past few hours. Its 100% CRUDE, because ...this is my first real time using AutoCAD in years and when I did cover it....eh...i wasnt really paying attention . Anyway. I included the picture that I used as a source in it, in the hopes someone can improve on it, and get a better KV. The random measurements i took on the neck and of various other things...were close..but I'm sure someone else could get them MUCH better. I hope so anyway, I'd like to build a KV sometime. http://home.rgv.rr.com/kingv1474/KVX10.zip I'm gonna try to get another KV picture (KV2T, neckthru w/ a headstock I like), so I can get close measurements of that headstock (plus guitar if i feel like it ) ..again..in the hopes someone could edit them and make them betterer.
  15. yeah so we can just sit here..and be like '...ugh......another _count_ posts to go" I'd love to have a copy of those specs....since.thats gonna be my first guitar. Not the JEM specifically, but an RG w/ H-H and AANJ. I just have the generic body shape..w/ the old style neck joint. It'd be great if you could email me those whenever your finished, if thats kewl with you? Thanks. or i can trade ya I'm currently *TRYING* to get a picture (from jacksons website) to scale. I'm off by a lil bit (i'm using the 22nd fret to nut, which should be 466.0mm), its 466.28mm. But some other ones aren't as close....i guess thats just what ya have to deal with when dealing w/ a picture? even though its flat not like an angled picture. We'll see if i can get it all to scale right.
  16. Well I was able to find some AutoCADs of some guitars from guitarbuild.com. including an RG, but I was never really good at AutoCAD. Can someone tell me how to get the model of the RG to print out life size. I think its done in 1:1, i did some dimensions on it..and it came out to what the schematic said it should. But every time I try to get it into a layout it comes out different.. Is plotting the model possible?
  17. I mean....when i make a real guitar(or multiple hopefully)...where tone is an issue. I'll probably use Mahogony more than any other wood. I was planning on making a Wizard style neck. Again, outta some cheap wood w/ prolly just plastic inlays before working w/ MoP or something nicer.
  18. well I was just saying MDF, because its local...as far as i know..its cheap. I don't expectt this guitar to become my main guitar..or to even be used. I just want to practice ...getting used to using the tools, finding out how i want my arm contour, etc... Ya know? I don't wanna go thru multiple pieces of alder or other real wood(i'd end up using mahogony more often than not), just to end up making a bunch of mistakes. So i'd rather just use something cheap and easy to get to make all my decisions on, for example like i said ...the arm contour, shape, placement of controls, all the fun stuff. I couldn't care less how the 1st few sound, as it'd be more learning than anything. Ya get what I'm saying? http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/095...0675260-5256113 I'm gonna go price that book locally tomorrow (maybe later tonite even). If i find it at a decent price i'll get it.. if not..then i'll have to order it. Thats the book every one should get right? Or is there a better one? Thanks for the link to the tutorials..been there. Been reading up on this subject this week. Totally forgot about the Jemsite though....
  19. I plan on doing some veneer work on one guitar, if that comes out ok...do it on my main guitar. I'm thinking of making my own guitar after all that, maybe over Winter(i live in a place whre it gets like 70s during the day during winter) I'm not very good with woodworking tools. But... I'll learn dang-nammit. I'm thinking of just starting w/ the cheapest woods i can find, like plywood or MDF or something like that just to get the technique and stuff. I think i'll buy that book that seems to be 'the guitar makers bible' .. The How to make a Guitar book. haha.. Can someone lead me to specs for an Ibanez RG style body and Wizard neck w/ the All Access Neck Joint. And how about tools? Are there cheap/homemade type of tools that I can use instead of investing in certain things from like stewmac. Just incase the plywood version is too much for me..and i choose not to go on...i don't have a lot invested. Thanks for any help.
  20. is 1/25th" veneer too thick? or too thin? I notice the universal jem has 1/40th" ... but i found this on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=2352050551
  21. heh..i didn't see that tutorial..odd cuz its just a few above the stripping one i was reading . Thanks. Thats what I'm gonna do on one my guitars i never use...to practice. And if it works.... then i'll do my jackson. I just have to find the right veneer and black dye. Any ideas? I'll take a look again at brians veneer..but I want AAAA or maybe even AAAAA flamed maple....might get somethin off ebay... Thanks for the help guys. I'll probably start this in a couple of weeks...gotta track down the maple an ddye.
  22. nope...its real wood. Check out the ones Brian has at universal jems. oh sorry, nevermind. Brians are WAY skinnier than what you mentioned. nice. NO no..thats exactly what i wanted. Something thin enough to just have to ...put it on...without a lot of wood working and what not (since i'm not apt in woodworking). The cutting out of the hums/etc...would be the hardest for me. thanks for that link... might endu p getting my veneer from them....depending on what home depot or whatever else i can find where i live.
  23. yeah veneer. The stuff thats like a fake wood sticker right? Can you dye/paint that stuff? and..yeah..i have no idea what you mean by ..scroool saw...or flush trim router bit...... I'm not a woodworker. But my aunt tons of tools...i'm sure whatever you said she prolly has or can obtain from work. I have 2 guitars that i never use..nor will i probably ever use. I was planning on practicing the stripping technique on those...i guess i can practice the veneering too, right? I'm off to home depot to start pricing stuff. Thanks. I'll be sure to take pics of the process and all that so I can post it here ...just for show and information if anyone else plans on doing this...
  24. I read a post on another board that linked to a tutorial here about paint stripping. Anyway. I was thinking of stripping my jackson and modifying it in other ways. Right now its: Alder maple / rosewood 24fret neck H-S-H Vol-Tone-5way spade type licensced Floyd Black. basically this EMG 81/S/81 I'd like to go from that and add: a thin maple top (like teh 1/8" veneer offered at warmoth) in order to make it H-H Vol-Tone-3way toggle DiMarzio Air Norton/Steves Special (or similar) wired w/ the middle position using one coil of each hum (the same thing Petrucci uses) How hard is it to add a top? How would I go about routing out the hum/potshafts/toggle/floyd rose 'holes'....and also get it to match the front arm contour and theres also a lil contour on the lower horn. I'd dye the top black and give it a transparent or maybe all black paint on the back/sides. Anyone know if adding a 1/8" top is feasible? Oopse forgot to say that later on I'd get a different neck w/ binding/sharkfins. Also, i'd probably wait on the dimarzios also. Basically...the first mod i would do would be adding the top and dying/painting it.
