  1. Hey everybody i just bought some HS-3 Pickups and i would love to know the correct wiring for them in the neck and bridge positions, i have a 4 pole 5 way switch, and the middle position is fitted with a stock fender pickup, i would like to fit the neck and bridge positions with this HS3 , but the question is, how do i wire them?? i should wire them as humbuckers or single coils to work better? help me out please!... i would like to keep my 5 way switch, and still use positions 2 and 4 combining neck and middle and bridge middle sound of the strat cause i use them to play some blues stuff... Help me out !
  2. Im 21 years old and my name is Daniel ....Im a newbie on guitar building, so i would like to know what are the basic tools that i need to start a proyect on a Stratocaster guitar, or an ibanez guitar, i would like someone to recommend me an easy project for a newbie to start with. What tools do i need and how much money do i have to spend?? another question I live in south america, ( in ARGENTINA if anyone knows where it is ) and i would like to know about the wood tonal qualities here, and how can i replace for example : ALDER , or BASSWOOD. i mean to get a similar wood that grows in trees here in my country naturally and that are not as expensive as if i had to order the wood abroad, cause it would be too much money to spend. Every, other guitar builder or luthier doesnt want to explain to anybody " their secrets " , about where they get wood or something. I hope a soon response.
  3. Hello everyone in Project guitar forum, i would need someone help, i need the wiring diagram , for my Strat guitar, it hums like hell, i have this setup right now, Neck pickup - Dimarzio HS-3 , Middle - Fender Stock - Bridge - Dimarzio HS-3, i would like to know how to properly use this pickups, how to wire them properly,. because they are suppossed to have no hum at all. is it because they are wired as single coils that they hum a lot?? how should i wire them to make them humbuckers??? Please help, ok, and another question, Does anybody know where i can download DVDS or anything about Luthiery ?? i would like to download videos about guitar construction and building.. Thanks to everyone! One last question, How can i shield my guitar properly to stop humming at all?? Hope a soon response.
  4. Hello all buddies from Project guitar, i am having some trouble finding a good tone in my guitar, i have a BLack Fender stratocaster, 80's reissue, i think , as everybody told me, looking my guitar, but i have a problem with the wiring in the inside of it. i have the wiring of 2 HS3 ( Neck and Bridge ) and a stock fender pickup ( middle ) , i have a switch for 5 positions, suppossedly the HS3 pickups have no HUM at all, but i still find hum in the proper positions ( neck or bridge individually ) , the wiring is set as Standard single coil switching, my question is: to have the proper usage of HS3 pickups, do i have to use the Humbucking series switching? it says in my dimarzio manual that its properly used with a 3 way switch and not a 5 way, another question is, can i use that type of wiring for my 5 way switch?? . well, i have some other questions as, Im playing the blues right now, and i want to have a fat sound type , like the one SRV used or Philip sayce uses right now, do i have to switch back to stock pickups?? and whats the best wiring for them to have the least hum at all in my single coils ( stock )?? of course, i would like to include the proper wiring and the proper use of caps in the Tone and volume controls ( i changed the volume original Fender pot , for one from Dimarzio parts which people told me is better ) , well anyway i hope someone can help me with this matters, Thanks for everything now, see you around !.

  7. Hey everyone, i just sticked my first decal on a cheap strat, got the original finish off it , and the original decal, sanded a bit, to prepare it for refinishing it, but first, i want to know something.... Is Transparent Lacquer the same as Clear Lacquer coats??, cause ive heard lot of people recall CLEAR coats... instead of transparent....i have Transparent, and heres what i did, i sticked the decal using UHU adhesive ( cant find Spray adhesive by the way, ) , feels nice there, but the problem came when i started coating with Transparent lacquer..... I still dont know the best proccess of how to spray the coats, i mean so that i can easily wet sand every coat after that... i would like to know that then , Can i make my decal in transfer papers??? cause ive done it on a different paper than the transparency film from the tutorial, but that transfer paper looks neat , and would be a really nice thing to do on my strat.. Anyways, Id like someone to help me with the Lacquer thing, and how to apply it correctly with my spray lacquer on the Headstock. Thanks

  9. well i got my decal layed down,. but now i need to know something else, What kind of paper should i use?? i read about the transparencies, but i dont know what kind of transparency paper is it, cause i live in South america and weve got lots of Papers of that kind here, so ill explain what kind of papers we have...theres one thats really used to print on Graphic stores, wich is the paper that they use to make ORIGINAL stuff for advertising and stuff, theres other one wich is mostly REALLY transparent and used for frame working, like for using them with a proyector, or some kind, and i was wondering WHAT kind of transparency should i go look for for the decals, thanks again!

  15. Well i guess it wasnt that difficult after all, so i might be able to start soon i just need to go to the nearest store and get me the materials ... i think im gonna have a go to alder wood, my strat is made of basswood, but its terribly heavy, and its impossible to do some of the tricks i used to do on my other guitars with this one !. Heavy as hell. So i might try making it from poplar if not alder... Anyways, about the Templates, im living on South America, Argentina. Would any still be selling me one of those templates i need??? They have to be as cheap as possible !!.... cause living here is already a pain in the a** for the deliveries ... I mean, too expensive for me...But i can try it anyways if someone lets me know where i can get those great templates... willing to make a 70's Strat, i would love to have a 60's Strat template as well. Well anyways, Thanks for everything ..Hope a soon response!
  16. Hey everybody, i was fascinated by starting building my new Strat project, i would love to know some things.... About for example , wood.... or about the strat itself, ive heard the stratocasters at least the ones from fender are 2 piece bodies, whats the difference?? cant i make it a solid 1 piece body??? i will grab alder to make the body, do i have another good choice and cheap of a wood as light as Alder??? I grabbed my fender strat to make a template on the body.. but i need to know if i can make it 1 piece body, Then, I was hoping to paint it on a cream color, Vintage white i think it is, what are the things i need to do to the body once its ready to paint?? i need a base paint i heard, Whats the name of that?? where can i get it?? and then i listened i need another colour to put it on top of the base paint, that as you build up it reacts with the base to make the colour i want, what should i use to make that colour up??? , Thanks againb for everything, ohh and if someone could give me good template for a 70's Strat ,i would be grateful Thanks again for everything.
  17. THANKS Guys, this is too bad, i cant restore the neckkkk well anyways, ill try sanding it a little bit more, and you say i have to build up Polyurethane to get that finish??, ill re sand just a little bit, to remove the rest of the finish , and ill then apply polyurethane... by the way, whats that?? its just another type of Lacquer?? sorry for my ignorance, im just a newbie , you know and im wishing to know as much as i can... i have to go to a paint shop and ask for polyurethane just that way?? or ill have to ask for Polyurethane lacquer??, thanks again Guys .... ill leave it relic-ed i think but i have to refinish it or it will be worse than before sanding it lol... 19. Hey everybody, i am just a newbie, more of a player, this will be my first experience with wood working, i recently bought a fender strat, but as you can see its awfully stained , greenish and black, i want to restore it, i tried sanding it with a 360 wet/dry sandpaper, very smooth, i got the oil finish off, and some of the blackened stuff, but its still awful for me, i still see blackened stuff, and greenish stuff, can anybody tell me if theres anything i can do after removing the finish adn some of the stained stuff to remove all of it to make it really clean like it was recently bought??? is there any chemical i can use to set it to the fretboard to remove all that stains??? and then i would like to know what stuff should i buy to make it more like an orange looking, maple neck, not just a white one, i heard i could get translucent lacquer but it would leave the color just white, and i want it more orangy, like this What should i buy?? please help me out?? i really want to restore this neck, its fast, and i would love to leave it just as if it was just new. ... Hope a soon response oh and by the way here are the Strat pics, not very clear but you can see the darkened-greenish areas, Its a strange strat, Fender logo is weird, its a japanese fender guitar, but dunno, what year is it from , dont know anything it was abargain i got it very cheap... well thanks for helping me out
