  1. Back to glue, I hate this. Both of your choices are unsuited for guitars. Weatherproof means water resistant which means can cause finishing problems. Please look for the one hundred threads which discuss the many proper glues for your guitar project.

Well , is there any glue out there that doesn´t cause finishing problems ?

  2. Side dots are now installed. I had slight mishap there due my incorrect tooling. The drill bit I used was making holes too tight. So I decided to enlarge holes by wiggling drill bit around. Of course I snapped off tip of the bit in one of the holes. I was lucky cause the broken tip was 2mm below the surface so I just inlayed dot material in like usual.

  3. Wenge is great when sanded up to that level of grit! I wouldn't worry about the pores - as long as the sides are stable and won't splinter. I dropped a bit of CA into the ends of the slots on my multiscale Infinity to add a little stability (whether it will help is debatable) after I took a couple of splinters for the team during radiusing :-\ If you really hate the pores, then a thin application of dyed epoxy isn't out of the question. A quick radiusing will take the sheen off the surface, leaving the epoxy in the pores although a fair few will still be "open" of course. Open or closed, Wenge is a great wood!

<edit: damn, this makes me miss my Lumi Explorer....I really should take some time out to do the final buffing and setup....>

Too late to fill the pores. After I took that photo, I installed frets in. Any case that´s a good idea. Maybe i´ll use it in future project.

  4. Allrighty, show must go on

Finished fretboard without frets. Sanded up to 6000-8000 grit ( I can´t remember which one) with micromesh pads. I came into conclusion that it worthless to go up any furher cause there will be open pores no matter how hard I sand.

I had few problems when drilling holes for dot markers. i accidentally drilled few holes too deep so had to fill them up with super glue and wood shavings.

  5. @Prostheta

I know it´s frustrating to sit there watching other peoples projects while you can´t do nothing. Hopefully you get new workshop running soon, so we can watch your projects again.

There´s also www.muusikoiden.net , a general music forum is finland. That´s where most of the local guitarbuilders are. If your wife can help you to sign ,maybe you can ask questions there. I don´t think anyone does mind if you make a question or two in english.

  6. Few suppliers here. Basic woods available maple, mahogany, wenge, etc,....Instrument builders sell fretboards. If you want fancy figure i suggest imports....I´m busy right now as we speak so I don´t have much time for blabbering.

  7. To me this sounds like you´re whining at people at PG that you dont have enough money in your wallet. This is not the first time you ask a question how can you come up cheap fretboard without any money. I seriously think that noone is going jump into that calculating thing as deep as you are. when it comes to shipping costs. So you should know the best what is best option for you.

Good alternative for building guitars is NOT to build them. saves money, keeps your lungs in good condition , saves the trees, etc...

  8. I dont have any ticket to that festival. It´s pretty much useless to start searching tickets as they are mostly sold out. Especially that day Megadeth is performing. If you can keep security guards busy I could try climbing over the fence.

Yea, that fretboard looked like it was enough for 2 fretboards but sadly it wasn´t.

Taper is now cut and fretboard´s glued to the neck. I want to make bit more progress until i post some pics.

  9. "And I would not recommend simply cutting off the higher 3 frets. The heel of a Strat is 0.5" to the end past the last fret, and the distance from the 21st to 22nd fret on your board is only 0.425". So if you just cut it you will have a slight flat spot. A better thing to do would be to put a fret saw in your 22nd fret slot and saw it all the way through, then butt the two pieces back together and glue them up. The seam will be nearly invisible if you are careful."

Stereordinary, I'm sorry but I am having trouble picturing what your saying. Are you saying I should place the 'left over' fingerboard on the body?

    .

    Thanks!

He is suggesting that you cut fretboard in two pieces at 22 fret and then join the pieces back together.

  10. yay, school projects are fun to watch. it´s almost always a question whether you make it or not until the deadline. I built fretslotting miter box as school project and i almost went nuts cause project was bit more than i could handle. but i did it eventually. good luck to your project.
