I think that fretboard is cool looking. Can´t wait to see it finished.

Here´s what i think about the desing. Dont´take it seriously thou.
If you want a neck joint wich enables neck to move. It would have to be a loose joint.
All this makes me to ask. Hmm.... Loose neck joints, anyone ?
Probably that desing works also as a tremolo. But only if you are fast enough to turn the hex key.

I´ve been happy handplane user for a quite a while. Until now, I discovered that
I can´t use lever cap correctly to hold blade in place. The switch is rounded and worn from underside
This is Stanley Bailey´s plane bought as new. Owned for less than a year.
Have I misused my plane or is this common problem ? Are there any DIY solutions to replace or fix lever cap ? I´m not sure if
anyone sells replacement parts around here.

Oh, I never said mine's off, I'm just curious.
I checked your current build and it does look like truss rod is off center a little bit. Or is it just me ?
-
personally, i would just leave it. thats a reallys small difference. and in the pic it looks like its centered.
EDIT: are you talking about it not being centered, or the truss rod channel sticking out of the end of the fretboard?
That´s it! It´s not centered properly. I also had this in mind to leave it, but there´s still bridge to put. It will be off centered too.
It´s a neckthrough guitar I´m trying to build.

Of course I had to take a lesson on how to build guitars on hangover. And here´s result.

What would you do on a situation like this ? Remove fretboard and re-glue I guess, but I already did the head veneer wich makes sanding the neck difficult.
-
-
I use to packing tape to cover my cauls.
-
You are not going to put any veneer on the headstock ?

I really didn´t remember this thread
http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.ph...&hl=simmons
All it took was a little search.
-
Yea, I was trying to remove oils and sanding dust

I´ve been cleaning a couple of ebony fretboards before gluing with acetone. Does this stuff have any negative effect on Titebond and how good joint will be ? The reason I´m asking cause I removed one of those fretboards and it came off a little bit too easy, I think.
-
I´m intrested too! That looks like the tremolo I had in my first guitar. The trem was real piece of c***.
-
I´m building my first Les Paul and Ì´m in the same situation as you. And I too don´t want to buy tang nippers. I think that basic side cutters and file will do the job.
-
I would glue the joint first then route slot for truss rod. and after that i´d glue sides to headstock. but that´s just me. You can do it like you want.

Are there any known issues with gold paint ?
I wanted to ask cause I´m about to paint a strat body with gold paint. And I wanted know what I´m against. Not that I would change my mind about this thou. It wont be any precious project.

Walnut: ca 2500 Euro/m3 (local dealer),
Pallisander: 11110 Euro/m3 (Fanerkompaniet AB),
Eastindian Rosewood: 24300 Euro/m3 (Holm AB)
So it's not just a couple of dollars more!
"Just a small amount of Wood..."
No Wood Dealer in Sweden sells less than a Whole Plank, 2-3 metres.
Well you could try http://www.viilukeskus.fi/swe/defaultswe.htm
It´s not in Sweden but very near, In Finland Turku/Åbo.

how thick is the fretboard usually ? how often you can see jumbo frets with separate fretboard on a strat? I mean those factory made guitars.
I asked this cause I made a neck which doesn´t fit my strat.
no matter how high i screw saddles in the bridge.
strings still touch the frets.
I think there´s two reasons for this. Jumbo frets and too thick fretboard(7mm). heel should be fine. it´s 19mm/0.75" thick.
I guess I have to remove frets and start sanding. I´m not really happy if I have go through this route.

Obviously guy needs attention so bad. Just glue up some body wings into your harp and call it a bass guitar.
-
Years ago some guy at finish guitar building forum built a hole strat from acrylic, including neck too. He tried at first to do it without trussrod but acrylic was too flexible.
-
It takes a real hard time to understand what you mean.
-
I´d like to try this circle saw method to cutting angle on top.

when i´m gonna be 28. then i`ve been playin guitar for 10 years just like you.
I think Yngwie is one, my father and Ritchie Blackmore.
First band that got me started was Metallica.

Did killemall mean weird looking wood ? I´d feel myself uncomfortable if someone was staring at me from a guitar lid.
