  1. It sounds like it could be one of a hundred basses. Pics would be best as well as a good pic of the headstock. Most of the time you can identify them by the HS shape and design. Any numbers would help too. Sometimes they are stamped in the back of the headstock, sometimes engraved on the neck plate, sometimes inside the control cavity.

  2. I agree with the above comments. I'd say 90% that it's a Teisco just looking at the pup covers and maybe, just maybe it's an old Hofner.

As Scott said eBay is your best bet for parts. They are out there and there are plenty of them. I actually have a bridge that will fit but it's not leaving my Teisco ET-200 :D

BTW SouthPa that is a killer site!! It's now bookmarked baby!! Did you see that minty mint Airline on bottom of the 60's page?!?! Holy Smokes!!

EDIT: Make sure to search tIEsco and tEIsco on ebay. Many of us spell it both ways!!

  3. I checked the Zakk's I had and they are Hz's......I also have them in my LP bass so where I got H4's from is a mystery. Luckily you guy's are quick to call me a moron!! :D

Maybe I should go back to caffiene.....it's been 6 weeks without it and I still can't get used to it. Now if I give up smoking I'll be a complete mess. Come to think of it I haven't had a drink in 6 weeks either. I need to get out more!

  4. the components aren't that expensive ....

I guess that depends on your income and what you consider expensive. Lovekraft has a GREAT deal of experience in this area and his advice on this topic is well respected on the forum here.

  5. Ahhhhhh.......semi-hollows.....the real man's (or woman's) repair job!!

Loosen the nut and poke a stiff piece of wire shaped like a "J" into the F hole. Tug softly on the wires until you see the jack move. You now have the jack wiring. Take the nut off (don't lose the jack wire!) and pull the J hook and wire up through the F hole. Fix your broken connection then attach the wire to the jack so you can fish it back through the hole. Re-attach the nut and you're good to go.

It's NOT easy and takes PATIENCE. I now use a pair of curved, long needle nose but before I bought those I used the wire method with great success. The wire has to be stiff enough to hold the jack when you go back in but flimsy enough that you can yank it off when you get the nut back on. Try a piece of #12 or #10 stranded electrical wire. Patience, patience, patience........

When you're through with that try changing a pot.....that's even more fun! :D

  6. If you take the back cover off you'll see there is a little circuit board inside.....that is an active pre-amp as cold said. You can buy preamps online and put them in your custom or home-built. Do a Google search for "bass preamp" or "active bass eq" and you should find plenty of sources and drawings.

  7. OK, im confused, are thoes squigles resistors? I always thought resistors were drawn as a rectangle?

They are resistors. That's the way they are typically drawn in electrical schematics. I don't know where the rectangle thing came from but in the 25 years I've been reading schematics the "squiggle" is the standard way to draw them.

  8. I gotta say this.....I am very impressed with you in being able to not only admit them and bring them out on an open forum, but you are also able to work around them and make the whole idea work. Not a lot of folks could or would do that. You're helping a lot of others learn in the process whether you realize it or not......good stuff!

Keep it up! Your ideas and designs a great!

BTW I just noticed you're from France (?) Why did I think you were from Tennessee or Kentucky?? :D I take it you're from the States originally?

  9. Bye, Bye Birdie (musical) at the local high school April 7, 8 9th. It's a non-paying, volunteer gig for the local theater group and it's a PITA because the songs change key every few bars......AHHHH!! I think I've played every note on my fretboard in the last 2 weeks, and most of them when I wasn't supposed to!!

Here's a typical conversation at practice:

Me: What are the flats in EbMajor again?

Guitar player: Flats? Huh? What key are we in again??

Me: Nevermind, we're in Bb now.....no, wait, it changed again now we're in C, awww s&%$!!!!!

    Guitar player: :D

Me: :D Time for a smoke break yet? B)

    Who writes this music anyway??!!
