  1. Immoral....come on Curtis. Music is an interpretation of something you heard and it stuck I just read an article in the new Bass Player where Victor Wooten said he "borrowed" a lick from Jaco and uses it in one of his songs. He wrote the song around the 12 notes he "borrowed".....as long as it's not a blatant rip off you're not doing anything that hasn't been done already a million times.

  2. Off Topic: Mled' I'm listening to FTW "Let me out of Here" and your dude in your avatar is dancing right in time to it. LMAO!!!!

On Topic: I have found that parts are worth more than a guitar a lot of times also. I should just part out everything I have.......

and NOS to me has always meant "New Old Stock" ie: never used original equipment. If Fender is calling something a 1962 Custom Shop NOS and it was not made in 1962 I'd consider that misleading.....but hey, that's just my opinion.

  3. Who is Sandi1070

He's the seller on the auction listed above....Ben's Millwork.

Geezer thing hey Drak? I'm getting to "geezer-hood" and I still have way too much to learn......It's cool how you keep learning through the ages though and you're an example for all of us here that never heard of half of this stuff ten years ago.

  4. Don't you just LOVE ebay?

Yep, as a matter of fact I do! :D I just don't like the jerks in the world that rip people off and they exist in more places than eBay.

Did you pay with Paypal? Money Order? Was it from eBay or another auction?

There's lots of solutions (besides "beating him up" DD) and many are simple and effective. Give us more details and we'll help you make his life miserable in a nice legal way.

  5. Looks like most of us are in agreement on Maple, Poplar or Alder.

Go to a local supplier. I buy all three and it ends up costing me from $9 - $15 per body blank (2 piece) depending on the price of wood that day and how easy the guy is to talk to (read talk down in price). Once I told the guy I was buying for guitars he got all friendly and started telling stories. The longer he talked the lower the prices got! B) Don't rule out the poplar....Fender ised it for years in strats and in their basses. I bought some real nice clear poplar that was on the low end of the price range ($9 per body blank). I made a strat out of it that sounded pretty darn nice but I would give most of the credit to the pickups I used in it not necessarily the wood alone. I also made an experimental bass body that I put different pickups in to see if I like them.....unfortunately that body met it's demise in a terrible ATV vs bass body accident :D I should have slowed down before I pulled into the garage :D

  6. I've heard that they are REALLY heavy and scratch easily.

They are pretty heavy. I had a few Kramer acrylic Baretta's in the past that made a Les Paul seem like a travel guitar.

I think it would be really cool too have one with a transparant tint on it. Like a transparant tint insted of just clear.

Most of the one's I've seen were in either red or blue. I think I even had a purple one once.

  7. Thanks Maiden.....I looked on that site and came up with nothing. Now that you pointed me back there I found this:

    Toby Pro4CE

I ended up finding it in the "Sneak Peek" section. I also read in the forum there that they are no longer carrying the Tobias import basses....I wonder who is now?? All I found online was the big $$$ ones....

    Thanks!!

Edit: Maiden....the bass is bassically (no pun) an El Capitan in disguise as a Toby from what I can see and hear after playing it. No surprise since Gibson makes them and I imagine they are made in the same plant as the Epi's. It does have a nice arched back that seems to project well. The quality is decent Korean made quality and much better than some of the other imports I've seen.

    Edit: Thanks Gorecki!

  8. OK, this doesn't happen often but I am stumped and at a total loss for info on a bass. It's a Tobias Toby Pro 5CE and was made in 2004 according to the serial number. That's where the mystery begins......I can find NO info online after about 40 google searches and cruising the Gibson site.

    Here's some pics:

    Toby Pro 5CE

Anyone have any info or have links that I missed in my search?

    Thanks,

    Steve

  9. As I see it, its an investment for the future cuz the guitar will go up in value

    :D:D

That's what I always tell my wife!!

I have had mulititudes of impulsive buys....the latest was my Cirrus. I was browsing the rack at the huge store in Mad Town and saw it priced oddly....like $500 less than it should have been. Asked a few questions (it was new but had some "in store dings"), found a few dings from boneheads that play store equipment like they own it, threw the guy an $800 offer and went home with it for 1/2 price!! They sell for $1599 at musicians friend, etc.....not a bad grab!
