  1. Did any of you pop your knuckles excessively?

Ummmmm, no, really, not at all!! Kidding! I did pop mine but I wouldn't say it was excessive. I'm finding as I age things don't pop like they used to (be nice :D ). I have arthritis pretty bad in my knees, my right especially (3 surgeries so far), but that has been with me since I was about 13 and grew 8-1/2" in one summer. My hands were always OK but suddenly this spring they are swollen, stiff and too sore to even hold on to things. I can't even make a fist with my right hand and my left barely gets there.

  2. OK, most of you are younger on here and I am really not that old (41 next month) but I am having a SERIOUS problem with my hands lately. The arthritis in my hands and knuckles has been so bad I have cut my playing time from 1-2 hours a day to only 1-2 hours a WEEK for the last 2 months or so :D

Does anyone else have these issues? How do you get around them? Are there any excercises or stretches I can do to help? I should mention I do stretch my hands regularly during the day at least 2-3 times an hour. Even that is getting to be unbearable lately....my hands really hurt too much to even stretch....... :D

  3. Nice looking axe Wes! I am/was not a fan of V's but looking at them in those pics I almost wonder if they're not more comfy to play sitting down than a regular body. The V sits right on your thigh....looks like it would play nice that way for a bass player. I could get the neck up by my shoulder where I like it without holding it up......

  4. If you were to consider a passive pickup that has real character but no availability, it would have to be the Gibson mini humbuckers put on EB-3s and EPI Allen Woodies.

THAT is a sweet sounding pickup! Now I have to go play my RumbleKat!!

I agree on the Fender deal too. I never figured out the appeal of the Fender bass. Every one I've ever played has sounded dead and thin. I was so cranked to put the USA J p'ups on my bass but when I got them on there I wasn't real impressed. I put the Lace in and they just sounded so much better.

I like the Hz's (apparently I'm the only one :D ) because they are clean and bright. A lot of the stuff I write is a jazzy pop stuff that the brightness sounds nice in. I tend to play up on the D and G above 12 so I like it to have a little snap to it and the Hz's do that for me without any unwanted noise. Now if i'm playing blues I'll take my LP or RumbleKat and if rock and roll is the game give me my Cirrus!!

  5. I think they use the "Powered by Lace" on the Fender basses but they don't have the label on them. I know a lot of guys use the Lace Gold's to get the Pink Floyd Strat Quack sound. I used a set of Fender USA Jazz for a while and when I picked up the Lace I put them in there. My ears liked the Lace better. Much more "bark" than the Fender IMO which sounds real nice playing Geddy Lee (not that I can play much like Geddy :D )

  6. For everyone else thats just tearing eachother up, this is flat out stupid. Making usernames to bash the mods. Do something with your time. One of the main reasons why I'm barely on this site anymore is because I don't find advice here anymore, its just people that try to get advice than get screwed with junk on their thread because somebody they didnt like posted in the thread. Its trash, if you dont like somebody keep it to yourself instead of trashing peoples threads like its all OK. The mods do their best and if they act "mean" towards you, get over it. They're probably just pissed because they have to deal with a bunch of people like you.

Well there is one less person here to do that now. I tried to talk to you and treat you like an adult Gary (gsrguitars) but you continue to act like a little kid. All 5 of your usernames are disabled and your IP will be banned from this site as soon as we mod's get a hold of admin. I hope you enjoyed our visit to our site. You are NOT welcome back.

Now let's get back to the decent place we were a few weeks ago. I don't have enough spare time to do this when it's 75 degrees out and the sun is shining!!

  7. He doesn't care what you want to sound like, he'll make it. Even if the rest of us know it sucks

That's really an important statement.......listen to a bunch of different pickups and choose the ones YOU like. Who cares what we play or what we like.

  8. Chek each peice you use before you build a guitar, make notes and imagine the tonal outcome, and then compare your notes with the actual tone at the end of the project. You will learn an incredible amount this way.

Thanks! That's one of the best pieces of info I've seen here.

  9. I have a set of Lace Sensor Jazz in my project jazz bass. I love them. Lots of low end with enough bark to hold their own in almost any tune. The price is decent too.....IIRC I paid less than $100 for the set. I usually only play Rush on the Jazz bass (don't know why) which is a combo of all the styles you mention. Give google a search and I'm sure you can find some sound clips of them on the web. Lace has a bunch of clips on their site and in their forum.

  10. I have the EMG-Hz's in two of my basses and they are very nice......but they won't touch Bartolini's. The EMG's have a nice variance of tone but nothing I've played digs as deep or plays as sweet as a Bart. They just have "that" bass sound. I have listened to many clips of the LightWave and they are as close to the Bart's while being different enough to justify a try but they are pricey (~$400). I'm putting a set in my new project bass this summer. I'll let you know how they sound in real life once it's done.

  11. You better watch who gets close to that first piece........It looks like a......nevermind :D

Nice looking stuff. It took me a minute to realize there are so many pieces. You could resell half of that stuff and make twice what you paid for it back!
