So I decided to post one of guitars I am currently building. Basically it´s a superstrat with some custom features. It will be also a proof of concept that was researched in my thesis.
specs:
Body
1 piece straight grained sapelli (swisscheesed because it is a bit heavier than I´d like)
bookmatched unique carpathian maple
Neck
wenge, angled headstock italian lock
ebony fb bound with flamed maple
16" radius, 24 frets, 25,5" scale
Concept - body and neck tuned to exact frequency (stay tuned (or just check out this thread from time to time because it might take a while )
swisscheesing.. just small holes, those won´t act as chambers = lots of sound in lower weight package
Body was then bandsawed close to line and prepared for top glueing. No pics of that, sorry, but clamp police might arrest me.. deffinitelly need much more clamps for this purpose
At this stage, it gets P40 robosanding with template, then freehand robosanding at P120. Neck pickup and neck pocket gets routed using template from previous 7 string build.

I´ve used hondo rosewood twice and I fell in love with it... but mine has tendency to chip a lot so I had to be careful. Otherwise, color, texture and tap sound are awesome
-
I think that grey burst looks awesome, but I am not sure if it fits well with this sort of guitar
-
wow! can´t wait to see the progress on this one! stunning build so far
-
looks pretty much like Vik Guitars´ duality series to me.. but nice clean work!

Beautiful work man, very clean!
thanks man! I appreciate it. Keeping it clean is very important for me. The better you prep, the better results you get at the end...
-
Anyhoo. GOTM her and remember to flip the photos the right way around. *cough*
I love those jokes about the "right way" but I am not sure about GOTM... I´ll just wait and try to enter it with my own design guitar not sure about strat being a guitar of the month.. it´s just too common guit

The neck joint really is very nice..looks much cleaner without that small bit of wood between the neck and the neck pup and lets you keep the neck heel nice and square
yup, it was done because of the shorter scale... customer said: I want that neck pup as close as possible to the neck, and the bridge pup as far from it as possible.
After I saw it coated in that satin sanding sealer I did not want it glossy, but that was just mine opinion

Hey guys, I don´t have time to post here pics very often so I decided to make this thread for me to show you mine builds.
Recently I have finished this HSH mahogany strat
It has 24.75" scale, very thin neck and action low as possible - this is because of customers´ "short and fat" fingers
Body is made of old stock african mahog and neck is carpathian violin grade flame maple
pickups are 2x SD HS4 and single SD antiquity, tremolo is fender and tuners are locking schallers..
oh and not to forget, it is lefty
now some pics
first coats of sanding sealer
neck from the back ;-)
and there she goes finished

darker lacquer on the right places, neck almost done
the lacquer looks wet but it is not I use it thinned to 80/20
-
not bad for a strat body 1.9kgs, what do you think?
hanging after first coats.
filler for body and thin nitro lacquer for neck
as thin coat as possible, fretting, another coats
-
fast forward
and with the neck
-
Hey guys, been a while again...
This one is already finished, so I want to share it with you
Body - swamp ash
Neck - european flamed maple
bridge, tuners - fender
pickups - fender hot 50´s
classic vintage grain pattern
-
I guess you could balance the bright woods with weaker pickups (magnets). What kind of pups did you use on that birdseye guit?
-
this thing is going to be popular

How´s the tone on this black lotus? I´ve heard somewhere that walnut is a bit on the bright side. I guess it depends on each piece...
-
very cool guitars I must say how heavy are they? as far as I know, european ash is heavy as hell...
-
Vintage meets modern, a.k.a Lady-P
Contoured alder body with nitro burst
Slightly flamed maple one piece neck with walnut skunk stripe and abalone side dots
Badass bridge, Hipshot tuners, Lollar pickup
1 volume + 1 tone
All finished in very thin nitro

yeah, the black hardware switched the customer from his second bass and the pg shape is traditional see 51´ p-bass (or Sting´s signature)
an this is an audio sample Bass test
strings are DR Black beauties - between nylon and flatwound
-
Fast forward... we decided the old neck did not match the overall concept very well, so it´s got a new neck now.
and my new logo
There she is in all her beauty
-
And it´s looking like a bass
Test fit, and the next thing is sanding, sanding and finishing
First coat of sealer after staining it amber This beauty is getting a burst
And bursted, waiting for topcoats
And ready for a trip to it´s new home... gonna miss you Lady

onto the back... edges routed with 45° bit, control cavity template made and cavity routed using it
and started on the neck.. first the fret slots on ebony gets cut, fb gets trimmed and then radiused using 16" radius beam /custom made/
let the fun begin my first binding job on fb, so I had to pick the harder one.. so! sharp chisel and steady hand... after 30min or so this was the result... not bad huh?
after the all hardware arrived I could route the bridge pickup cavity... and this is how it looks by now
