Hey guys, long time to build from me there. Been busy but I made this beauty, Lady-P, as we call it with my customer. This bass was finished in dec´2011, but just a few weeks ago we decided to make a new neck for her Now when it is done and customer is satisfied with it, I decided to share the pics with you guys
Features:
contoured alder body with Lollar handwound vintage PB single pickup
neck - no.1 maple with rosewood, no.2 slightly flamed maple 1pc
all hardware is hipshot and it has simple 1vol+1tone electronic
-
anyway, thank you guys.
I asked this because I´ve made a sapele body and it´s too heavy (with 3cm thickness it´s heavier that standard tele body).
I knocked on it and it sounds pretty bright... what do you suggest? Some "warmer" sounding top, I was considering chambering it swiss-cheese style. Or all rosewood neck to dampen the high frequencies? Or combination of any of these?
-
I think the mahogany is a better choice for this kind of build. You can´t go wrong with that one. And a one amazing top you have there
-
okay, let´s say what is heavy/light tele, strat(Super S) body for you guys?
-
yep, the bottom right did catch my eye too, but I don´t know... It´d look better without any F-s
-
where can you find Limba in Europe?
& where can you find Honduran mahog in Europe?
-
I messed with the dyes tonight but nothing worth showing came out of it. I was going for a look similar to this:
This finish is hard to get on ash, this guitar has a pine top
-
Wow.. nice one as always is that neck flatsawn? Haven´t you experienced any stability issues with flatsawn flame maple for necks?
-
Nice one! Did you roast the maple or you bought it that way?
-
I agree. The walnut is quartered and the spanish cedar is close but the af mahogany is goofy with knots and swirls. This first batch is meant to help develop a consistent, repeatable process. So they are really prototypes that will be offered up to friends at cost unless they turn out nice enough to sell.
yeah, those knots and swirls make insane looking stuff, but on bodies. Neck should have grain as straight as possible. I don´t even like using less than perfectly quartersawn blanks (haven´t used flatsawn yet). I have seen wood doing crazy things with grain twisted like that.
-
Not sure about the grain direction on the mahogany neck... besides that it looks:
-
Wow... I´m making a red, maple topped tele too and I hope it´s going to look as good as yours
Did you seal also the maple on the sides or you just carefuly dyed the top?
-
Man, Chris that is one awesome guitar! Wish I had the same opportunity in Myka´s workshop could you post some pics of that tailpiece? I want to make one too but I have no idea how to do it
-
Everyone is writing about their blanks that they are very light, or heavy or so.
What is it like exactly? Is a 2.5kg body blank heavy for a sapele?
-
Great job Patrick as usual. I saw these on facebook
-
Looking forward to it

Nice guits Neven I´m from Slovakia, and I order from shop.sollerguitars.com

hooglebug - looks like very clean work, but mini guitars are nothing for me
As always RAD´s guitar amazed me the most. It´s just a simple beautiful guitar. Makes me wanna build superthin superstrat really soon
SwedishLuthier - nice one, love the inlays only I guess I´m just not a bass person
CrazyPaint.no - great job, nothing to say, but the one piece neck-through.. I don´t know, hope it won´t move
Hitone - i was considering between you and RAD, but your guitar is missing something. I don´t know, maybe Elvis playing it? Reminds me of Las Vegas, although I´ve never been to LV or USA at all
DC Ross - I like that bookmatched back idea, just that upper horn looks odd to me, sorry. Otherwise nice guitar, that new owner is certainly happy with it
-
Iam wood porn guy so go on
Looking forward to it ;-)

I believe that ESDictor ment "painted" like the neck has some opaque colour on it like this:
Or am I wrong?
-
I´m interested in that neck. Zebrawood as a neck? Haven´t heard of that, yet
-
Of course I would take only straight-grained piece with no knots or any flaws in it..
Really? How about the sound of PF fretboard? I heard it is something between RW and maple.
-
Fantastic work! How long did it take you to build a guitar like this?
