Why an acoustic scale?
my guess would be

http://www.prsguitars.com/25thmira245soapbar/index.php
Actually Wez is right, but I´m not sure with this one. Shorter scele should make it sound warmer, when I´ll use maple on the back too. I was also considering the 24.75" scale...
As I wrote, I´m open to any suggestions. This is not a "by-the-book" build, it should be fun build

Thanks Mattia,
I´d like to build something like yours, but with block under the bridge. I´m using TOM bridge and run strings through the body. The block does not need to be under the bridge pickup, right? I want to carve the top from the inside, because I want to make some custom sound hole How thick is that piece of mahogany you´re using?

hey there, Im building a PRS copy and I want to make it semihollow. The top is flame maple and it will be around 18mm thick, center is mahogany (30mm) and Im considering of using flame maple for the back (4-6mm). Can you give me some advice? Should I make it just Maple top with mahogany back, or should I use the maple back too?
Photo of some projects would be great too...
Thanks a lot :D

must start following this build
Hopefully you won´t be the only one
I forgot to write that my pickups are custom wound for my guitar by Mr. Juraj Turza. He makes KA pickups and I want to thank him this way

Got the template done out of plexiglass today
Sorry about the poor quality

After first a little bit misleading topic I decided to start this new, hopefully stable topic
Some things have changed since my Singlecut build topic. For example I´m building two guitars.
The first one will be mine, the PRS Custom 22. I put the best I can in this one:
Mahogany body with carved flame maple top (flame maple back?), flamed maple neck with ebony fingerboard,
24.5" scale, Kent Armstrong PAF Plus Special pickups, recessed TOM bridge
The second one will be a value build for my friend, PRS SE (Torero?):
Walnut hollow body with flame maple top (flat), maple neck with IRW fingerboard, 25.5" scale, 2x HB, hardtail bridge,
finish will be some custom paintings (he is not sure yet). We want to keep this guitar under 100€
Feel free to comment and give some suggestions, I just glued the body blank, so anything could change (but hardware)..

Another "tutorial" build... that´s what I like
very cool guitar

Hey guys! I´d need some help with electronics. Kent Armstrong pickups allows wiring as series/parallel and also single/humbucker. I ordered volume pot, push-pull tone pot and 3-way switch (gibson style). I guess I´ll have to resign one of connections (series-parallel / single-humbucker). What wiring diagram shoul I use?
Thanks, Peter

It's looking like fun already. Beautiful start with some gorgrous materials. I just finished my first PRS carve, it was challenging but ALOT of fun.
Thanks, the neck is similarly flamed like the top.
And for the finish. I was thinking about it and I´ll probably take the way of finishing it with satin nitro I want it matte

Here are my parts so far.. more I will get during this and the next week

Got some new stuff recently
The body will be hollow mahogany 2 pcs with "ears", neck is flamed maple with ebony fingerboard.
I´ll post some pics today
-
welcome to the PG
very clean work an it´s looking great so far.
the body seems to me a bit thick. how thick is it?
-
good luck with it, the first project is very important because you get many experiences
-
I´m not a big fan of JS, but this guitar looks awesome!
Could you post some pics of back and neck for us?
-
ok, got planed the neck blank.
Actually I´m making two necks out of it. Behind the neck blank you can see flamed top.
On the photo you can´t see any extra flames on the top, but they are there I just didn´t sand it and make a proper photo of it...
Tomorrow I´m going to make templates.

Looks like the PG is now full of PRS
Very nice looking project though What color it will be?
Keep up good work

I was thinking about something like Shellac, a friend of mine is great violin maker and he makes his own lacquers. So this should be done this way. Bud finish is the last thing I´m worried about
And the chambered body with no F-holes? We´ll see I was thinking about it this way too

Hey there, so after few years of thinking, I finally managed to start building my third guitar. This one will no more be a budget build, I will use the best materials I can get.
Specs:
Body will be similar to PRS Singlecut with 3pc mahogany (hollow, not sure yet) body and carved flamed maple top.
Neck will be flame maple w. ebony fretboard. This one is a challenge for me, because it will be my first neck with neck angle and scarf joint.
Bridge I´m going to use is Gotoh TOM bridge with strings run through body, tuners will also be Gotoh.
Pickups I´ve ordered are custom made Kent Armstrong PAF Special with stronger magnet on bridge and PAF Plus on neck position.
Things to think about:
Finish?... Not sure about maple top. Back and neck will be natural. Nitro or Polyurethane?
Make it hollow or not?... Mahogany I want is light, but on the other hand I play a lot without amp.
Any advices would be appriciated
Feel free to post any suggestions.
This guitar is for me and I want to make it a fun build

I find EMG HZs sterile and anaemic, whether a famous artist is using them or not.
+1
I´ve installed them on my last guitar, but I wouldn´t do that again.
They sound great, but I think that they have... no character...
-
that´s a nice piece of ash
about that thickness... why don´t you just plane down a few milimeters?
why dont´t you build a neck on your own? if you are afraid of fretting, still you can order pre-slotted fingerboard at stewmac
the necks are my favourite part of building a guitar

Lookin´ great HenryM
Are you going to paint it or you will just put a lacquer on it?
-
Looking very good can´t wait to see better pics
-
Very nice and clean work! How are you going to finish it? What color?
Thanks
this colour i like it very much:Black Slate
You picked very nice finish.. are you building it for yourself or for somebody else?
Hope you´ll can get me some advices when I will be building my prs singlecut hollowbody

Got some necessary tools yesterday
I´m impressed with both of them... the small one is just 4cm long and radiused (for carving the top), and the big one si perfectly flat, great to make joints
