You might find you'll eventually want something flatter though, for the entire surface, in which case you could put a sheet or two of MDF or birch ply over your dimensional lumber.

Well, the 24th fret being 18-9/16" (471.49mm) from the nut is certainly a 24.75" scale length neck.

Be careful with very thin templates. It's easier for the bearing to slip off the edge, and in an instant your workpiece and fingers are moving toward the spinning bit.

I can personally vouch for Bosch and Jet(/Powermatic).

In fact, most of my stationary power tools are Jet, and I've been very pleased with them. My 17" drill press had an unbalanced belt when I got it, but other than that I have had zero problems with my Jet tools (drill press, jointer, band saw, drum sander).

Have also been very happy with Ridgid (planer).

Ryobi... I have a table saw and a benchtop drill press. Less than thrilled with them. Although my Ryobi 18V cordless drill is great.

The 22nd fret on a 24.75" scale length fretboard is 17.805" from the nut.

That should give you a start... I don't know off the top of my head whether or not everything else will lay out workably (pickups, bridge).

I kind of do like the padauk with the limba though.

I have a nice piece of ziricote I could use for a fretboard. I'll give that some thought.

I'm very happy with the way the blank came out.

The seam down the center is almost completely invisible. (You can just barely see it in the first pic, because I drew a center line.)

And the joint made a cool pattern on the end.

Oh, cool! The padauk looks really great on that.

Which gives me an idea (thanks!). I happen to have glued up a black limba neck blank with one padauk stringer months and months ago and never used it. This may be just the project it was waiting for.

I haven't finished my current project, but I couldn't help but take a few minutes to rough cut this one this afternoon:

That's probably all the work I'll get done on it in the next month or so, but I thought it was worth a pic or two.

The reason I say it's a bad idea is that routers spin at RPMs that are way, way beyond what sanding drums are designed to handle. The danger is that the drum will spin itself apart and send shrapnel flying in all directions.

Be careful with that copper tape. The edges are extremely sharp.
