    Hope your build works out well. Ive been going insane on mine time wise ive been taking forever to finish . mainly because I have been saving for a new band saw. That and the fact that I have sent my kahler 8 string bridge back to kahler to have them modify mine so there has been a lot of back and forth shipping dahhh anyways I love the look of your 8 string cant wait to see it finished are you going to post any sound clips??

  5. Fresh New Start With My 8 String (with Kahler Parts)

    Well I decided to have a fresh start on my 8 string baritone. I now got all my kahler hardware Such as the locking nut and the bridge I have some custom pickups that I ordered from seymour Duncan they are based off there H M live-wire pick ups they were made with a custom voicing and have different windings than there regular H M live-wire so it can pump all the low end that my tuning has without getting muddy and still have all the high gain push that these pickups were made for as soon as im done with this project ill post some sound clips

    As of now here is my supply list

    Neck wood: ovengal

    Finger board: ebony

    Body sides: ovengal

    Pups: custom seymour Duncan's active live-wires ( at 18 volts. My preference )

    Tuners: ping

    Frets: stainless steal

    Finish: tru-oil with wax sealer or ill order the stuff Warwick use for there thumb bass

    Output jack: flush mount style

    Strap pins: Dunlop flush mount strap locks

    Inlay: still debating?

    there are alot of 8 strings being built in the "progress section",plus i am considering an 8 string explorer style soon.plus these topics have been discussed quite a bit...i guess you were just elsewhere at that time.

    dude,on another topic,i can't understand your posts very well.the words are too small and the lack of punctuation is killing me...

    look,i don't want to be a jerk about this,but until the typing is cleared up between you new guys,most of us don't even know what the question is,and i doubt anyone with any real knowledge is going to bother wading through all of that.

    geez what’s up with this I could believe you if you don’t want to be a jerk but what does my typing got to do with it for crying out loud I run everything threw word for misspell checks as for people not understanding I got some answers to what I asked

    so some people understood me some how as far as im concern the type is clear between the "new guys"

    I got answers to my questions so that means someone understood as far as anyone with real knowledge not bothering to wad through the whole thing is fine to me my question was for those who were working on some type of extended range instrument also if you had to tell me its all been said before show me where I can find it so maybe I don’t have to ask again cus I already did a search on it and nothing came up but question on how to build these 8s or that there building one but the topic ends with no result that search is my main reason for asking this overly asked question ahhh I feel so retarded even arguing this if something bothered you about this topic (like my typing or writing or whatever ) why bother leaving a comment on it I know I probably repeated my self or typed wrong or left something out but oh well ill probably be told about it later geez

    i like the purple heart one alot what inspired you to make em ? almost done?

    Ya the Purpleheart one Is my FAV right now, I just Love Working with purpleheart and I have been trying to build one for awhile now but I never really got around to it. Than I moved and lost my shop so nothing really happend But Im in a new shop now and Ive been seeing So much on 8-strings that I just had to finish a few.

    As far as almost done Im waiting on a few parts but once there i can really get moveing

    i built an auto parts store in edinburg a few years ago...ya'll have a good asian restaurant down by campus...the waitress was extremely cute as well.

    you live in Texas?? witch auto shop was it? that ur talking about cool beans means u live near by Asian restaurant musta been a long time ago they barely put up a new Chinese eat out up front of pan-am man unless u mean that old ass restaurant near the courthouse where do you live around here ? McAllen ??

    anyways yeah i know there are allot of them are being built but has any of them been done ive only seen lgms and Canuck Brians 8 done and finished

    an explorer style 8 that would be insane but wouldn’t the body look awkward with that big of a neck? what kind of pups u going to use can you show me some of these topics i did a search and not much came up same with the 8s

    im more or less saying what's been said before here but you got to let him know once its set into motion and everything he wants is said theres no going back if he cant handle it and insist on the ongoing changes then I wouldnt do the build if i were you it becomes troublesome

    Where are all the 8 strings at ive read about them so much but the topics slowly fade out I know there was a lot people out there wanting to make em but whatever happen I hope im not coming across badly but where are they ? As for me I finally got my parts in from kahler ( the locking nut ) so as soon as my carbon fibers and fret board come in from lmii im going to start working I know **** happens so what happen to all of the 8s ?

    Plus what do the majority of this forum think of the whole extended range instrument topic like 8-9 10 excreta excreta guitar /bass

    If your making an 8 string or some extended rage monster why

    what made u want to make one I know everyone who asks me why think its because of mushuga its not I play heavy too but my 8 is not because of them I wanted a thinner string that my baritone 6 couldn’t give me what an 8 has (thinner strings) my 6 was in low F or low G I want to make a 10 or 9 at low c after my 8 because I think it will be fun as hell to play solos for once in thinner strings and still have humugas chords hell yeah

    but mainly my reason for building one again is my father took and bashed my old one for a noble reason I think

    Any responds out there ?

  15. 5 String Electric Violin

    Hi All,

    5 string electric violin made using guitar techniques finally finished. Pics here http://www.villagephotos.com/pubbrowse.asp?folder_id=1815188

    Its full of flaws and really needs taken down and given one more sand with 2000 grit and a final coat of poly, then machine polished. But i'm fairly proud of it, and it sounds cool in acoustic mode and through M Audio black box.

    Sycamore body with a few fine coats of Shellac then loads of coats of poly, hand applied using a kind of french polishing technique. Maple neck with 3 coats Shellac. Ashworth electronics piezo transducer bridge. Passive output to mono jack.

    Thanks to all who gave advice and especially Drak for helping me calm down before Christmas when I was panicking that my son would have no present because it wasn't finished!!!! I mocked it up for xmas day.

    Now for the next project.!!!!!!!

    Dave Gilmour tribute Candy Apple Red 57 Reissue Partscaster, with EMG DG20 pups setup or Bare knuckle Apaches, and LR Baggs X Bridge (if I can figure out how to wire it to a Fender S1 pot).

    i like the way it looks how does it sound is it full or thin ?? i thought about make a violin from a lmii kit but i like ur idea better

  20. 8 String Baritone For Me

    well yes your right. I will be using the 30 scale as planed because, well my ltd 7 string baritone barely handles the f string and its a 85 string, sustain and attack suck monkey so I thought the 30 scale would help for tension. I also thought about a 28 scale like the ibanez mike mushock baritone, but I figured the low f is not the only string I drop that low. my last try with an 8 had a 27 1/2 scale from lmii but for g tuning using a 75 string, Any lower in that scale I had problems with slack and the like.

    anyway if the nut is a set 15 radius will a 12 or 16 radius work without problems? thats what I cant figure out

    well i have gotten alot of help from you all like Prostheta and rhoads56 thanks for the help this build has been slow but i finaly orderd the lock nut for the kahler 8, glad i wont have to wait till the summer.

    ive had a few changes to my 8 and my g/f 8 i going to make em out of shedua neck threw and the bodys the lock nut cost 66 bucks and is 2.375 or 2 and 3/8 wide with a 15 radius my problem is wer do i get a sloted 15 radius finger board

    I like how it's going that guitar, i can't wait to finish mine!

    man i cant wait to see your guitar too you had some crazy woods if i can reamber

    im going to be e-mailing kahler to see if i can get the nut already a guy who ive been e-mailing back and forth from kahler said all i got to do is let him know when i want it to call in and order it from him so hopefully friday i can do it as for this 8 im going to do it with the shedua that i got wish me luck you guys should cheak out the wamme forum
