  1. Hey all.....it has been a while. Well In the past month or so I really took up My Ibanez Jem project. I Cut the Body With a CnC machine with great results. I am using poplar at the moment (didnt have time to glue up the alder). Here are some Pics:

I plan to do a swirl paintjob and I have been experimenting for a while with paints. Here are the fruits of my labor:

-Started with a beat to **** rg body and sprayed it gloss yellow with spray enamel

The swirl is much more vibrant in person! Let me know what you think.

  2. Well, My Ibanez Jem project is coming along and all planned out. I have decided on trying to do a Swirl paint job, as they look so unique. So far I have everything I need to test with:

Cut and primed 2x4's for test dips:

Enamel Oil Based Paints ( Red, Green, Pink/Maroon, Black, and still waiting on Yellow)

    Reeve's Oil Paints (many colors)

And of course some Borax and a bucket to test dip the 2x4's

Depending on how thick the enamel oil paint is, I will use paint thinner (mineral spirits). I will be clear coating with poly urethane. First I will be test dipping the 2x4's (about 8 of them). Next I will move onto a crappy Mark II strat body (not even the size of a strat :D ). Next, I will move onto a Ibanez Rg-ish body, and finally dip my Jem Body. I will of course post pics along the way, and if anyone has any advice, that would be great! :D

  3. I have been looking over the web and it seems 6105 fretwire is pretty standard. I am looking at Stew Mac and they have many different frets (none with the name 6105). Which fretwire should I get? And can you please explain why the fretwire choosen (your preference) is the bes. Thanks!

  4. Hey, I will be attempting a swirl paint job soon and had a couple questions. First off, what is the best paint to use to get the most vibrant colors. I'm talking about the DNA or PMC swirls done for ibanez a while back. The tutorial on the site is great, but if you look the colors are dull. Anyone have experience with cool results? please post your pictures, tell of your methods, and the paints you used. Thanks!

  5. Hey, does anyone have an aanj (rg/ jem) neck cad file that they wouldn't mind sharing. I am making a jem for a highschool art project (attempting a swirl finish). I have the jem body all set through solidworks and ready for my dad's cnc. I just want to make sure the neck is perfect, as it's the easiest to screw up. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  6. I was going to buy one of those fret boards off ebay for my jem project (the one with the inlays....) it has a 20 inch radius fretboard. Should I go for a 16 inch nut or after putting the inlays in should I re-radius the fretboard? And what does the 1 5/8's nut width do diffferently than the 1 11/16 (or whatever it is)?
