Looks like transparent blue sprayed onto the body but could be stained. Dye is what used to stain something however problably more concentrated than a ready to stain product. Use alcohol to stain. The stewmac stuff works with either.

transparent blue? is that diffrent from dye/stain? carn't i dye is blue like the Quilted and then clear coat is? to give the same affect?

That is a Quilted Maple top that appears to be stained with a black burst painted edge. The stained top along with a clear coat is what makes the top jump out with the 3D effect.

Does the same staining apply to this one too?

and what type of dye do i need to use water base ones?, or spirit?

and again whats the diffrence between dye and stain...

Anyway!

I'm wondering How do i get this look on a guitar body.

I know that

1. I need a nice grained body/Laminate Top /QUILTED affect on it for starters.

But if i use spray paint wount it cover up the grain?

What type of paint..or even oil do i need to show that affect?

& whats the diffrence between staining, and dyeing a top?

So i went up to the town today and got the stuff i need to Test the Swirling

Oil paint from the local model shop

and borax from Boots

colours i got was

black

blue

green

My first go at it did not go too good i put the paint in

black

blue

green

and the green had been got flooded by the other colours (mainley blue) there was no green in site:S

2 go.

went a little better as for i did not as much borax as i did last time very little lol^^ this time cuz it was only a small bucket.

I did not bother with the green

I put in the black then the Blue

the black went across all over the surface then the blue in lumps.

to i tested with my peice of skirting lol^__^

no undercoating

turn out like this.

3 go.

went the same but with a white undercoating.

swirl kinda came out shity the little blobs showing the white coat all over it>.<

4th n 5th

i got hold of some red(yays)

so i put in

black

blue

red

for some reson my red ate the blue....0_o..

its drying at the min so i got no pics sorryS!

now here are the questions=D

1# how much paint should i put in??

2# how much borax should i put in??

3# why did my "3 go" with the undercoat came out with the shity white spots

4#why do some paint kind dont work (like the green and "red and blue")

once i got my guitar body sanded down.

should i use a white under coat then spray paint it blue then dip it?

trying to get the same affect as blackknight or like in the vid was it a green under coat? thx.

as long as its for personal use and your not going to make them and sell them thats ok.

but if u gte tired of it make sure you sell it to someone you know. not on evilbay or anythink like that.

how often should i clean the finger borad? (not the frets)

right..ermm ok how about if i just buy a normal neck from here http://www.axesrus.com/axenecks.htm the high nitro gloss and leave the neck blank.

iam kinda confused., so i can make a strat looking guitar as long as i dont put any kind of fender logos on it. sell it as long as i state thats its not by fender? right?

Just buyed a body of evilbay for £30 its hardwood Alder. So its a bit better than ply/chip/ or bass =)

downside is that I could only get the guy the guy to gimmy a trem system with it.

It was that or some pickups and a scrathplate... And the pickups up could have been crap...so ye anyway!

So post ya ideas here for it.

I'm gona try to keep it to a small buget

since its my first.

maybe not the best pickups but not the worst

maple neck- mighty mite w/e its called

then need to find out how to do the wireing ect: 0.0!!!!! ooo god =( lol

update=- just found out from my local dealer, that they are made of crap i.e ply/ chipbored

so i should not sand it all the way right? just so theres a thin coat? left from the existing?

k cool, does anyone know what the Squier body is made out of?, i dont think its plywood.

Hi, as you maybe able to tell I am new to the forums so, Hi All=)

OK, ive never done a custom re build in my life before.

But i know a fair bit about guitars.

Ive got a chance to get a Squier for 20£-30£ thats like $38.

Ok, so I just want it to mess around on, and see how it turns out.

I know the grain on them is not that great. =(

But i was thinking of sanding it down.

Use (RED) wood dye/oil or something (so that i still can see the grain) then gloss it over the top.

Change the pups and neck ect

Not sure=( to dye or paint

+ i'm looking around the tut on the main page^-^

anyway post suggestions here
