  1. nice. personally i'm a huge charles mingus fan. the man is a genious with jazz invention and experimentation. Maybe not Davis/mclaughlin caliber but he sure kicks arse.
  2. well, i wouldnt say that. teh drummer is pretty incredible. but the bassist makes the band. the guitarist is just sorta there.
  3. thanks for clarifying. my guitar is a stop tail POS sso i didnt have a floating trem to compare to. by floating you mean like a floyd right?
  4. how would the strings sound together open???? i just realized they could sound like crap depending on how you tune them with chords!
  5. right, your totally right. vai tends to be more of a screamer whereas satch is just a smooth cat. i dont know how to explain it. but your absolutly right i didn't understand what you meant when you said that!
  6. why do you think i want to build an 8 string if i only thought it was for high fast playing. i didn't mean to diss you. I would love an extra string on both sides. I play jazz a lot and i would love to play easier with the piano. The piano easily gets up there where as its much more difficult with a guitar. you said that you on your 7 string tuning a .9 gauge e string to an A would make it stiff. would it not? and tuning lets say .12 gauge B string to an e would not make it tight and stiff? i might be wrong but it just doesnt make sense to me. i did not mean to crash you at all speedy you help me a lot. and thank you for everything
  7. hahahahah! thats the funniest thing i've ever heard. (btw yin yang are opposite not making fun of you that was a really great quote!)
  8. wow that helps a lot THANKS SPEEDY!
  9. or radio shack. lmao. ill check prices there. THANKS FOR THE HELP GUYS!
  10. for you that is. For me I'll do that but buy a 50 put it on bottom and put a .9 on top like i usually do. Ill leave the rest of my strings alone so that teh action can be bueno.
  11. except, arent all of the strings stiff because you have to tune them up? I dont see how that could allow for fast playing!
  12. that sounds pretty good to me. vai would kill himself for something as high up as a high A. Lmao. no real disrespect its just that silly solo thing that everyone does these days where they go all the way up as high as they can oh the high e string and play really fast. BAH. Not to say Dr. Vai is all about that. he is great at other methods of soloing but he does do it. that would be a interesting.
  13. i know people do i'm actually looking for a link or something?
  14. i know that. but who would sell a string for a guitar that goes up to a high A?
  15. wow. thats amazing a 9 string! but where can you find the strings to put on? just some for a 12?
  16. I will build a carriburst. I WILL build a carriburst ME ME ME! I LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!!!
  17. really? i thought they had 2 low strings. how does the high A not snap when you bend? or even put it into tune?
  18. Whatever happened to the whole Charles Mingus theory that bassists can be a lead instrument. That should definately be brought back in mainstream music. The bass is a beautiful sounding instrument with many organic great sounds. My personal favorite demonstration of the "charles mingus theory" is primus. Man oh man you guys should check them out. their head bassist is POSITIVLY amazing. Les can do anything with that bass. He combines heavy music with funk style slap. and hillbilly-esque stylings. i love every second if it. its just so true. In my band and our first CD "wet puppy" laugh if you must. is a jazz/funk cd that features me on guitar my friend luke on bass steven lowenthal a kid who knows his theory on piano and a shmuck named danny parrella who can be cool sometimes but we have him with us because we really dig him as a drummer. I play rythym sometimes and let luke do the lead work sometimes. And we essentially switch, I feel that bassists are not just someone to keep the beat and the melody. I think they are a valuable member of a band. Not just to the guitarist. remember that when your watching some of the instrumental players. It seems as though they're only worried about their guitar sounding great. WHAT ABOUT THE BASSISTS! there are bassists out there that could probably school vai. PEOPLE COME ON! WHERES THE LOVE FOR THE BASSES!
  19. I'm not supporting them but the way "Big Brother" blinds us is with how glamorous celebrities are. I guess sometimes we just lose sight of the truth, that they are treated like crap and are not that rich. And although they may not be another miles davis they still did have to fight for it. Including getting out of whatever previous situation they were in. I'm with wes. Thank you for reminding me about that.
  20. thats true. even if there is no real talent there they still have to fight for it.
  21. actually i just got word that seymour duncan makes custom pickups for 125 each. very affordable. That's a great service to guys like us that cant afford a pickup winder. an 8 string might be a little more. but it's worth it.
  22. personally i think that satriani can do all of vais tricks and some more. He's a little more modest and his melodies are great. not to say vai doesnt have some great melodies. I'm a huge fan of bad horsie. But i think that cool #9 kicks the crap out of any vai melody. I also like FLYING in a blue dream.... hell i love all his stuff. satch wins. *SATCH BOOGIE*
  23. 2005????? wow. i guess that leaves some leeway. I thought he meant jan. 1st next year, and i was thinking. Jesus, that leaves practically no time. BTW where do i sign up?
  24. wouldnt the 8th string sound kind of bad? I'm not questioning your judgement thats the best idea i've heard so far but wouldn't it?
