  1. hey

would it be better to have one thick block of accrylic to creat a body

or several thin sheets glued together ?

if i used severral thin sheets then i could cut some different for the pickup routing and the neck pocket

a neck of acrylic is a no go isnt it ?

wouldnt be strong enough would it ?

  2. ok

so ive got a strat copy and i want to venture into the world of customising guitars

im going for a matt bellamy style guitar

ill probably have to do some routing and a custom pickguard that wraps around bellow the bridge

can someone check this to see if it looks right ?

    thanks for looking

i may post up the idea for the custom pickguard

  3. just out of intrest

how many strings have you broken with a floyd rose

ive broken countless in the past week and its just annoying

i cant think of a remedy either

any help ? (even breaks em when properly set up)

    :D

    thanks for reading

  4. whats the best material for a pickguard

im planning to make one for my interchangable brian may loaded pickguard

    plywood ? acrylic ? what ?

i cant use a normal one because the 5 way switch is made redundant by the brian may lots of switches style

    so what material ?

i was thinking of using plywood as its readily avaliable to me

  5. hi

well , i have 2 guitar now (both bought) but my new one has a floyd rose so i want to upgrade my first guitar incase when i gig it breaks

i have a strat copy and im thinking of rewiring it (if it goes well ill add new pickups later on)

im thinking of getting about 13 ish pickup combinations via the brian may switching schematic

    which ive found here :

    brian_may_pickup_wiring_standard.gif

^ this is the standard wiring of the red special.

however on the website there is a modification to give 21 pickup combinations , allowing you to humbucker the bridge and middle pickups , shown here

    brian_may_pickup_wiring_modified_2.gif

there and it also has a foot note that you can add an extra switch to add a humbucking mode between mid and neck , however im not sure about this one

    so i have a few questions :

    1. where can you get completely blank strat pickguards (in the uk) ?

    2. whats the cheapest supplier of DPDT minature switches (in the uk) ?

    3. is the extra switch to allow the mid-neck humbucking combination ?

4 . if they are all on , all put in parallel , wouldnt that act as a triplebucker ?

    thanks

p.s this will be instead of the sustainer for the moment

  6. right so :

    switch4pdt1.jpg

what is the name of this switch ? quadruple pole double throw ?

it looks complicated , is this placed before or after the original pickup selector ?

or does it replace the pickup selector ?

    hswitchdpdt1.jpg

secondly , on the fetzer / ruby , there is only one output wire so do you just connect this to one midde pin , then connect that to the pin next to it ?

  7. hi

ok , so , im planning to check out getting components and perf board

how do you split the signal of the bridge so that part of it goes to the 5 way switch and the rest goes to the fetzer / ruby circuit ?

also , how do you wire a bypass switch so that it cuts of the 5 way selector , activating only the driver and the bridge pickup ?

    thanks

im currently working out the layout of the circuit on perfboard

    i have the layout sorted

the only thing i have to figure out is just the harmonic switch , im guetting there with it any help /

and the other switch as detailed above

  8. hmm

i think it seems a little to complez for me

i think ill go for a compressor/sustain pedal , cheaper and less hassle

    but thanks anyway

would i make a harmonic mode by phazing my bridge pickup then running it through the guitar , into the pedal ?

its a little off topic but it still involves sustain

  9. i dunno

    to look pretty

ok , but would that be wired up right ?

and whats the power amp ? just an op amp circuit before the driver and switch ?

    something like this :

    fetzer-poweramp-driver.jpg

(might to view full size to see clearly)
