  3. My parents live in Amstelveen, so that could be a possibility. Is it in Dutch? Would I need qualifications? I'd take an apprenticeship if I knew any luthier who did... but here in Edinburgh there's no one, and in the UK... well it'd he hell to plan...find somewhere to live, etc... I'll try of course but I'd rather just go to uni you know...?
  4. I'll try them too then thanks! Actually I thought what the heck and well... I may as well get a well resonant 2006 MIM Strat and maybe a custom neck and mod the heck out of it. New pickguard with a pickup or two, blocked trem for more sustain, fullsetup... They're light guitar and I love strats. That and those new MIMs are REALLY good instruments.

  8. I'll need to sell off some things and save up for a lighter guitar. I really want an all black, simple Strat that I'd assemble myself with a single hum, hardtail... you get the picture. Something simple. So Alder body, all maple neck, standard dot inlays, Strathead, single humbucker with single volume pot (most likely a SD FullShred or EMG85)... Where in the UK can I order strat bodies and necks? Obviously the more customization the better, especially on the neck, but price IS A BIG CONSTRAINT! It needs to sound decent of course, and I do my own setups so that's being taken care of.

Standard spaced, black...There's A LOT of lead left... I don't have a ruler handy there, nor a digicam. But there's enough for about a 12th fret pickup to controls. It's black. So it looks er... black and its magnets have been swapped quite a bit but it's back to normal right now. The tape looks a little worn off but it wouldn't show when the pickup is on a guitar and it holds just like before. $55 shipped to US, USD50 for UK. For Europe, in between, so let's say 53. I take paypal only, I ship when the money is checked in.
  10. I wasn't commenting the humbucker sound, but the single coil sound. What sounds more like a single coil? A split bucker? A bucker wired in parrallel? A stacked single? Again, I don't really see the interest in this. I haven't tried it, and my experience with this is limited I'll admit that though. The explanation about the mismatched coils makes perfect sense though, but then if one of the coil is wound like an SC, why stack it to make it LESS like one? Just so it's humbucking? It's not secret that no humbucking SC sound 100% like a single coil...
  11. This doesn't make much sense to me. If the single coil is in fact a stacked coil, it still wouldn't sound like a 'true' single coil. I don't have the experience to back it up, but I can't see how it'd sound more like a SC than a split humbucker.
  12. I don't know, my bolt on has a powerful humbucker through no volume pots in the bridge position and so has got my neck through. Both have a Floyd too. The key things are this: The absense of 'close' contact between neck and body woods, the pickups being bolted into the body as opposted to in the neck (as in neck through). This is what makes a neck through sound different.
  13. Exactly the same problem as with a neck pocket though Except the perfect fit has to be kept for a longer length, simply enough. It's not easy by any means. I think it is useful myself... It's true that most people don't care for the heel, but some really do. And I prefer the bolt on sound way more. And there's no glue involved in this either.
  14. I always find that bolt ons have much more of that inyourface factor very often. A bigger sound, more aggressive, less smooth. No matter what woods are used, I feel it's always the case. But of course who would not want the neck through heel and upper frets access. I thought about a different bolt through design, where the body and neck would be assembled seperately and the hell carved later on, as a neck through guitar would usually be assembled. It'd involve a lot more routing of course. The idea is to have the body in one piece as in slab bolt on guitars, but half of the thickness from the back is removed for the length of the neck. The black block at the end corresponds to the full body thickness on the actual neck, for those who like the looks of the neck through wood differences. The only problem I can think of for this would be if the guitar is designed with a tremolo. Routing for the cavity would take away too much thickness and there wouldn't be enough grip, if any, to bolt through. The bolts could be countersunk so that they don't poke through, and then covered with plastic rubber covers or whatever other solution. The grip should be similar if not better to a standard big heel bolt on system, and allow carving of the heel the neck through way. That's just a basic idea, I didn't do drawings or anything. I want to build a guitar with a Floyd so I couldn't do the prototype this summer as I'd have hoped, but if anyone has any experience with bolt through designs, I'd be VERY interested in whatever you built or experimented with. Here's a theoretical cutoff at the center of the neck: I hope you guys get the picture. It could prove to not be too stable though. Anyway, tell me what you think. I bet I'm not the first to have thought of this so if anyone tried it, let me know! Thanks
  15. I got a Madamp G2 and it should be finished tomorrow or in 2 days, and I'm wondering how I could finish the project. I was thinking about simply putting it in head format, with black cloth at the front, nothing at the back, and of course this black plastic thing around the wood that I have no idea how it's called... Any idea or contacts to use would be helpful I live in Edinburgh, if it may help...

Using THIS website http://www.musikding.de/index.php I ordered their boost kit which should be here soon, so I'd like to mod my Boss SD1 to be a more transparent, less bright OD with a more valve sound. This website takes paypal so I can use them and they're in Europe so it's very handy to get stuff, but I have no idea what to do exactly. I know some of you guys have things to do but I simply can't ship the pedal out and get it back here I'm affraid Furthermore I just want to do it yourself. So if any of you is nice enough to show me some modding tricks on the SD1 along with the stuff I'd need. Ok sure it's asking quite a lot but I'm not looking for a brand new pedal, just some quick effective mods. Thanks everyone!

  22. It's basically a JCM800 preamp with an extra gain stage. 4 12AX7s pre tube: Preamp 1, pre2, phase shifter/EQ boost and driver 2 6V6s power tube, 30W. Reverb Boost on EQ (for bass, treble and mids), as well as AOR boost on preamp 1 (which has A LOT of gain. Not Mesa like, but more than a standard JCM800 I'd say). preamp 1 and preamp 2 volumes (preamp 1 pulls for boost), as well as preamp 1 level (which works when the boost is on only). Think of it as 2 gain knobs and a level knob for the preamp 1 boost, which is just like having a clean boost in front basically. Footswitch socket for Laney FS2 which kicks in the AOR and reverb. Footswitch not included. Presence control. High and low sensitivity inputs. Effects loop (bog standard as far as I can tell) Speaker socket. You can use external speakers with it, at 8ohms, but without the standard celesion if you do so. DI output socket. And yep it's an AOR. On the front it says Laney Pro tube , AOR series. Ok I think that covers it hehe... Possible trade for ENGL 530 preamp, or for a decent poweramp, or for a 15W all tube combo (or less) with effects loops and external speaker connection. SHOOT!
