Tatts
Just a quick question... My mate wants me to make him a Gibson SG with an acrylic body! For me too sell this to him how much do I need to change the design etc., so that I dont get in any legal trouble? Take into consideration the acrylic body! RAI6
You don't have to change anything..... If you decide to start to manufacture HUGE amounts of this guitar, Gibson may have a problem with that. For a one-off piece............ No worries. litchfield
Legally, there needs to be a 10% design change to avoid infringement. However for a one off piece, Gibson wont come after you. Besides, a bolt on neck is a 10% design change.

G_urr_A
Since the first question seems to be solved, and I have a related question, that's not really important enough to have it's own thread, I'll post here.... Is it feasible to make neckthrough acrylics with wood necks? IE, can you glue acrylic to wood? Edited September 7, 2004 by G_urr_A

Dr. Jabsco
I would think that epoxy would do the trick.
jefm
You could make the guitar one piece of acrylic....acrylic fretboard even... casper the friendly gibson... I'd think doing the guitar in acrylic would be a significant design change??? but you could do what everyone else does...modify the the hips and the horns...and some of the body countouring
