feylya
Woke up this morning to a private message from a guy I talk to on a forum. He's offering me a five string bass, ebony fretboard, ash body, active pickups, G&L neck, no tuners and a possibly jammed truss rod for a grand total of nowt. AND he's delivering it to me for free on the 20th. It's been a good day. All I need now is five tuners and maybe refret the neck on it
skibum5545
mmm... nice! Yeah, G&L makes good necks. I have a 1983 SB-1 bass, and it has the most comfy neck contour -ever-! It's got a maxed truss rod, but I can't bring myself to get rid of it; I'll try to fix it, eventually.
feylya
Sweet. Looking forward to playing about with it, seeing if the rod is borked.
skibum5545
One thing to watch out for on G&L necks is their bi-cut method of building. I know they do it this way for maple necks, and I'm not sure about yours. They actually have the neck cut lengthwise down the middle, and sandwich the truss rod in that way. I don't know if this is true in your case, but it's something to watch out for. http://www.glguitars.com/features/index.asp#BI
feylya
Thanks for that skibum. It's an interesting way of installing a rod though!
