kevin7 Posted November 20, 2004 Report Posted November 20, 2004 Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and I have a question about headstock waterslide decals. I have an unfinished maple neck that I am going to apply tung oil to. My question is: Can I apply the decal to the headstock with the tung oil on it or does the headstock have to be unfinished? Also, can I apply the oil over the decal or should I seal it with laqcer? Any info would be greatly appreciated!! Quote
xebryusguitars Posted November 21, 2004 Report Posted November 21, 2004 i would put the tung oil on than put that decal than the clear coat. (i think thats what you said)...i dunno if thats the real way or proper way to do it but i would do it that way. good luck, hopefully you've read the tutorials on projectguitar Quote
erikbojerik Posted November 21, 2004 Report Posted November 21, 2004 Careful....it is notoriously difficult to apply any standard clear coat (nitro, poly) over tung oil. It tends to just peel right off. Tung oil tends to soak into the wood, and it takes an enormous number of coats to begin building up any significant thickness. I'm not sure how I would do this. Quote
kevin7 Posted November 21, 2004 Author Report Posted November 21, 2004 thanks for the info guys, after much research on this forum, I think I'll put oil on the neck and shoot laquer on the headstock over the decal. Quote
