Bounty Hunter
July '04 issue of G1 had John Mayall in the "Under the Influence" column. He was pictured holding a "customized" Squier, but the pic left a bit to be desired. Does anyone have a link to a site with a picture of the complete guitar? I googled but didn't find anything. From what I can tell, it looks to be cut down kind of like a Steinberger (sp?). TIA
spirit
I read about that somewhere else, and, if I remember correctly, it's a regular Squier strat that has been cut into the shape you see now. Apparantly he's been doing that to strats since the 60's.
tirapop
Found this pic. Hey, he's got his own website. Another pic and another. The guitar is a Stratocaster knock-off, made by Squire. John Mayall himself cut it down to customize it and painted it red. John Mayall has a history of taking Fender Stratocasters (or Strat knockoffs) and cutting them down and decorating them with paint, carvings and inlays. This is his latest, painted with the same paint used on the front door of his house near Los Angeles! There's a practical side to his artistry, as well: He also customizes the cases for these guitars himself, to make them easy to carry and less weight to check with the airlines!
