Well I want to build my own head and it to be inexpenisve, and to be able to improve upon it forever and after.... So My idea... buy a pre-amp, Equalizer, compressor, sonic Maxamizer, and power amp and put em on one rack.. Would this work?

My idea for a pre-amp would be something like this:

This Equalizer:

This Compressor:

This Sonic Maximizer:

And some power amp... nothing big, something small, ya know?

Would this work? My plan would to eventually be upgrade everything a little at a time.... Ya know? But the question is will it work?

Thanks guys.

I've been around.... working with my band alot...

http://www.toliveistodie.tk click the myspace link for our tunes... I play guitar...

Obviously...

Well I know it's not meant for guitar. But I asked if it would work... Thats what the Eq and Compressor are for, to round it off. Cause that's essentially what a guitar amp is... a pre-amp, a compressor, and eq, and then a power amp. Right? So would piecing things like these together work? I'm kinda sick of my Crate half-stack.

I just want something I can build and build upon. And I don't wanna dish out 1,000 bucks for a marshall pre-amp. Ya know? Can anyone else help me out?

Btw.. sorry about the double links.. the eq link is just a DOD rack-mount 2 channel slider Eq, nothing special.

No, you need a guitar preamp - that's basically a studio mic preamp, which is designed to be super clean, adding just a bit of tube warmth to the sound. There's not much available in a low cost high-gain guitar preamp, unless you want to go with a V-Amp or a POD.

I have a hard time figuring what makes up a good guitar preamp. If effects and cab-sim aren't priorities, what is a good guitar preamp? I use ARTs, which, of course, are tube mic preamps. What would be better for guitar and what is the difference? Ashamedly, I currently use two of the PAiA Stack in a box :D and after cleaning the signal up am rather satisfied (or too lazy to do better). I am sure there is MUCH better but I would not know what to tell this guy. Two thumbs up on the Sonic Maximiser, however. Way too good for a lazy person!
