Slabbefusk
Okay I have this Peavey Rockmaster Preamp that I use and the Ultra Channel has gotten kinda muddy and screechy, I guess its the tube thats gone but could it be something else? And how do I know which tube is for what channel, does anyone know where I can find a schematic for it?
thedoctor
I don't know how old your unit is and they have been made for quite a few years. The standard tube as built was an asian 12AX7 across the board. A good upgrade was to get some GrooveTubes or SovTeks. The earlier units had coupling capacitor issues and that very well could be the source of your complaint. You need a GOOD tech to sort that one out for you. frank falbo
With preamp tubes, I've always just pulled them and listened to which channel went dead. Notice I'm not saying "this is what you should do" so you can't sue me when you yank a tube out of a hot preamp, only to touch your hand to the AC input junction while you sneeze inside the chassis. thedoctor
No, Frank, you are supposed to pull them out two-at-once. One in each hand. While your tongue is on the chassis. No, really, you are right. If he would let every thing chill with the power off he should be able to figure which is which. Those Peaveys don't run high-voltage to begin with so two minutes between tube-pulls should be fine. I remember cap issues with those otherwise KILLER preamps. Bet that is the problem. Slabbefusk
I think I'm gonna leave it to a tech to sort this out, I don't want to mess my stuff up.
