Duff Beer Man
I was wondering how you guys go about finish routing your electonic cavitys for the little ledge that the plastic sits on?
unclej
i generally do it with a dremmel tool with a small flat bit. i'll trace around the control plate or access plate with an xacto knife scoring it fairly heavily and then route up as close as i can get then finish it out with the xacto. by the way, i have a base for the dremmel that lets it sit flat on the wood like a regular router. doug
Make a template. If you have a router put in your template bit and follow around the inside of the template. Make it just a little bigger then the plastic so you have room for the guitar finish thickness. -Doug
erikbojerik
I'm with Doug, make a template and use a router, that's the way I do it. As for bits, use a template bit or you can also use a rabbeting bit with the bearing on the bottom, but you have to make sure your cavity is already smaller-enough than the cover so that when you rout the ledge, you have enough room for the screws to bite without cracking the wood.
