Yes People do diy everyday. i am not saying you will get a useful pickup the first time out.. you may.. but you may not.. so if you are going to try one time and then give up.. then i wouldnt' waste the effort. however if you are opened minded and willing to learn then theres no reason you can't make a pickup. but if you think winding one pickup from scratch will make you seymor duncan. then no.
