Plans are going to be more reliable than the real deal in this instance. The real gibsons are going to have some variation from guitar to guitar(that's more true for older models than newer). If you're going to figure out the size of everything else based off of that measurement...well, I'd advise against it. Your best bet is to base the scale of the guitar off of the scale lenght of the guitar.

...looks like you've got two of the same measurements from a set of plans and a real guitar. Looks like you've got your answer. I still hold that you should base your scaling off the scale lenght of the neck.
