TeiscosRock
After you apply clear satin nitro to a guitar, do you just flat sand before spraying on a final coat, then leave it, or is there something special you need to do to that final coat? Mattia
Level and buff it like any other, really. Otherwise you WILL see the scratches. Less clearly, but you'll see 'em.
TeiscosRock
Okay, so could I wet sand to like say 1000 or 1200 and just skip final polishing?
Setch
Satin nitro has a flatting agent, which affects how 'glossy' it is. It isn't just regular nitro with an abrasive rubbed in it - if it was it would quickly wear glossy where ever your body rubs it.
Mattia
Quite. but it still needs some final polishing. The 'polish' is still a fine abrasive compound. I'd do exactly what I do with a gloss finish, in terms of polishing.

Mattia
If it's a 'real' satin/matte finish, yes. The finish contains stearates (or something like that, anyway), flattening agents, that change the way it reflects light. No amount of polishing or buffing will turn a true satin finish into a gloss finish, just as no amount of steel wool rubbing will permanently convert a gloss finish to a satin one.
