BLADE RH4
Hi all, I'm thinking of putting EMG pickups in my first project Tele and am interested to know if the standard Fender type pickguard needs to be modified to accomadate the EMG neck pickup because as most of you would know the EMG neck pickup for Tele's is not a chrome covered lipstick style that fender use. Thanks in advance.
BLADE RH4
OK then..... Does anyone have the dimensions (LxW at the top where it goes thru the pickguard) of a genuine Fender Telecaster neck pickup? I've googled for this info and there doesn't seem to be any measurements which i find strange simply because I would have though that there were people out there making their own pickguards. JohnA
Hi. Where did you read that the pickguard needs modification? I think it should just screw right in, the only routing being what you would need to do for the battery cavity.

Are you planning to make the pickguard before you have the pickups? I'm sure some modification will be necessary to install an EMG, but probably not more than a Dremel with a small sanding drum can take care of... crafty
Um, you shouldn't need to take the Dremel out at all. The EMG tele neck pickups should fit fine with maybe a little tweak of the pickguard with a light file or sandpaper.
BLADE RH4
I have the EMG pickups already (installed them this afternoon and they sound awesome) but the reason why I ask is because I have a pickguard from a cheap Tele copy (no longer have this guitar) and I noticed that the EMG neck pickup doesn't fit this one. I was going to go for a Fender '52 bakelite pickguard but I'm not sure now because I don't want to have to modify a good pickguard, I'd rather modify a cheap single ply one if that is what's needed. I'm not sure if the pickup from the Tele copy was the same size as a Fender or not, so that's why I ask. thanks guys
crafty
My Fender blue MOTO pickguard needed a little tweaking with a light file to fit my EMG-SAs and around the neck pocket, so it's a normal thing to do.
