Some type of Polyurethane/ester. Best bet with those seems to bo good quality sandpaper and a Random Orbit sander. Good luck...

Thanks. Was just thinking that myself. Good lord that clear coat takes some long to get through with sandpaper.

I stripped a Roadstar a few years back. The "coating" was nearly 1/8" thick in some areas. I used a heat gun and a scraper first, then some circa 1850 then the usual sanding. You really have to get medievel on some of these guitars. :D
