Starting New Project

Recommended Posts

Well i am about to start gathering wood for a new build. The paticular guitar i plan to be building is an Ibanez RG replica.

I have a list of wood i have found at local suppliers and they all look like i can use them for guitar building, the only question is which are more suitable (tone, weight, ease of building etc.)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These are the woods that i have found at the hardwoods supplier:

Jarrah

Blackwood

Meranti

Lacewood

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are probably alot more than this so i am open to any new suggestions.

:D

I have looked at a smaller wood place down south (noarlunga area) can't remember the name though. I fortunately get meranti for free.

What does the mahogany cost?

I am in Woodcroft. (The nicest place to live in the south of the south)

Cheers. :D

Lacewood's a pretty commonly used, nice wood, I don't much like Meranti at all (Philipine Mahogany is another name for it, and it has diddly to do with either the true or the african mahoganies), and if we're talking Taz Blackwood, that's a lovely, lovely wood, close cousin to Koa.
