Replacing Strat Pickups With Humbuckers

Hi, if this has been discussed before I apologise.

I am planning to refit an old squier strat with humbuckers, I have found where i can buy a HH style pickguard and there is plenty of cavity space in the body, so the pickups shoud fit in just fine i think.

What I would like to know is if THIS wiring schematic is right for me to work off. Im planning on getting seymour duncan SH-1 59's, and I just anted to make sure I knew what I was doing before i commit to anything.

oh, and one other thing! I saw those pickups on www.guitarampkeyboard.com for £57 each + £6 p&p, but does anyone know anywhere in the UK that sells them cheaper? as a pair? or cheaply with chrome covers, which is what i wanted but GAK are charging an extra £20 per picup for chrome.

Thanks

Theyre £10 cheaper here:

£53 with free postage

And I'd have thought you should be able to get covers for less than £20

Hell, for £19 you can get a full pickup with a chrome cover here! :

http://www.axesrus.com/axehumbuckers.htm

And with a bit more searching they sell chrome covers on tha site too for £5 each.

You need to know the correct pole spacing for the SH1 59's

oh thats excellent, thanks. i thought that putting covers on pickups was more complicated than just... puting a cover on a pickup!

as i understand it from what it says on the site you suggested, the 50mm covers are for humbuckers and the wider ones are for trembuckers, so i should be fine with the smaller ones.

...and, I should probably replace the, er, electonic part of the knobs, as they have quite a lot of crackle on them. But, I know nothing about this kind of thing so if someone could kindly push me in the right direction of what to buy from these id be grateful. (i need a volume and two tones, to fit a strack pickguard) Link

thanks

No problem, I think its that simple...

If I remember correctly you use a dab of solder to hold the cover in place (?), I'm sure someone else here can clarify that.

Also;

I dont know how much postage is on this site:

http://www.instrumentpro.co.uk/P-SEYSH1?source=froogle

but the pickups look cheaper still there.

[be warned that they say "Customs, Duties, Taxes and Insurance not included".]

electonic part of the knobs

Its called a potentiometer (pot) - make sure you get the correct value probably between 250-500k. more likely 500k if you are using humbuckers.

Lots of places seel them, like here:

http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electronics,_p...-Pull_Pots.html

on that site they also explain what they are and which pot to choose.
