  1. Hi, im looking for a good custom decal company to do a headstock logo for me, preferably UK based (if you can go one better, preferably in the Leeds area ). The reason im making a new thread about this instead of gleaming information from old ones is that there are so many companies about that do this, i really dont know where to start. I was hoping some of you might be able to reccomend a good place to get this done, that youve had a good experience with in the past. Thank you
  2. its called Brush Script this was the first result on google: http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~jmo...script_font.htm its pretty good, ive had it myself for some time
  3. I feel like an absolute idiot. You are completely right, the site i bought the pickup from has the two types of pickup, it calls the wider ones "trembuckers". I just hope theyll allow me to make an exchange for the one I need. I really had no idea they came in different spacings.
  4. I have just fitted the bridge onto the strat i am rebuilding and have noticed something bad with the pickups. I have two Seymour Duncan SSL 2 Vintage single poles and a Seymour Duncan SH-1 59 humbucker in the bridge. The humbucker is not as wide as the other pickups, or the bridge, the poles dont fall in a straight line with everything else. I had no idea about this when i bought it. unless I can get a refund (which looks unlikely), am i completely screwed?
  5. that was the problem, thanks. it works now.
  6. A few weeks ago i made my first attempt at wiring up a guitar (a strat, HSS config) im nearing completion of the project and i wired the jack on today and plugged it in to test it in a very basic way, as a friend recommended. (just plug it in to check for buzzing, and tap the pickups to make sure theyre... doing something...) anyway, i have just plugged it in and as i half expected i was met by a great deal of buzzing, and crackling when i touched anything metal. i wired the guitar, I think, exactly to the diagram i used from the seymour website, so i hope its not anything to do with the wiring between components. I didnt have the bridge and associated bits on the guitar, so i didnt have everything earthed to it, but ive got everything earthed to the pots. is that enough or could my problem just be earthing? However, knowing near abouts nothing to admit to knowing nothing about electronics, and as i dont own a voltmeter (which i probably wouldnt know how to use), im at a bit of a loose end as to what to do. (If it would be better to take a picture of what ive done to show you how its wired, thats not a problem at all.) (and i hope that wasnt too garbled, i tend to ramble and be a bit scattery if i dont thoroughly plan what i write.)
  7. Hi, I was wondering what you would recommend to use when polishing a guitar body thats had cellulose paint and laquer put on it. The paint i bought was car paint, so one would assume that car polish would be best. But before i went ahead i thoguht i would just make sure there isnt a better way.
  8. thank you very much, youre a life saver.
  9. yes, thats exactly what its like. im to connect an earth to the sheilding then?
  10. its this diagram here that im using. my pickup has just one wire so this confuses me utterly http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/schem...s_1v_2t_5w.html
  11. Hello. I am trying to install a seymour duncan sh1 59 humbucker into my stratocaster, and have run into a problem. On every wiring diagram i posess, there are 4 wires coming out of the pickup. But mine only has one wire, with cloth and then metal sheilding. Two of the wires are connected to each other, so i suppose they arent really necessary to be on the outside. But i am still in need of an earth wire for the pickup and i was wondering if you could tell me what to do? Thank you.
  12. Thank you for your replies. I'll definitley go with the WD ones. Well, I was planning on getting a replacement set of strat knobs in black (as opposed to the white ones i have now), though they are out of stock at the moment. But with what you said about the pot shafts, PeteBuchan, I'll have a look at what else is on offer.
  13. Hi, i am about to make an order online for what will basically be a brand new fingerguard and all thats attatched to it for my stratocaster. I am going to be having a S/S/H (that is, humbucker in the bridge, i dont know which way round the abbreviation thing goes) configuration. And I live in the uk, so i dont really want to order from abroad. Right, with that out of the way... I am ordering pickups from one site (www.crazytrainmusic.co.uk) and all the plasticky bits from another (www.wdmusic.co.uk). Both sites sell re-wiring kits for strats, but one is significantly more expensive than the other. The more expensive one is, funnily, from the more expensive shop (wdmusic.com), so i dont know whether this hike in price is just because of the shop, or because the stuff is actually better quality. If im spending all this rediculous amount of money on pickups and kit, i want the best electronics. The pages for the two kits are: http://www.wdmusic.co.uk/shop/products.php...p;product=18414 http://www.crazytrainmusic.co.uk/Tone_Pots.html (scroll down a bit) In your opinions, what do you think? should i go with the cheaper option? i know i would like to! but i also want the best. (oh, and the pickups are 2 Seymour Duncan SSL 2 Vintage Flat pole for strat single coils, and a Seymour Duncan SH 1 59 Model humbucker, if that has relevance)
  14. First, thanks for the replies. And second, I have some questions. What is a kill switch? I dont know anything about electronics, im afraid, and evel less about the technical side of guitars. The SH-1 is indeed a humbucker, but it does not allow coil splitting. That being the case, what do the other suggested options do? (the phase control and operation in seriese)
  15. Hello there. Many moons ago i fentured forth on a project to restore an old squier strat to something that i would get some use out of, involving a respraying of the body, new pickups and rewiring. For a long period, nothing happened. And then, all of a sudden, they did! The spraying was finally able to begin and my mind once more wandered to other options i have in customising the guitar. Basically, my plan is to install two seymour duncan SH-1's in place of the 3 single coils in there. But i also want to change the wiring so that there is just the one tone control for the two pickups, along with the volume, and put in a nice little chrome 3 way selector switch in place of the mddle of the three knobs. Only, now im left with an open hole in the pickguard and im not completely sure what to do with it. one reason why i want a little flick switch is because ive always (for some reason) really disliked the selector switches on strats... i dont know why. but i dont really want to put one in there. yet i dont want to have a useless gap in the pickguard. i was wondering if anyone here might be able to come up with an idea of how i could make use of it. ive been wondering about sliding switches, and whether one of them might be made to fit the hole... but i mainly just dont know what use to make of the extra control. or, maybe, not have another control. but in that case, how could i cover up the hole? I would greatly appreciate your shared wisdom, as i dont really know much about this sort of... thing.
  16. oh thats excellent, thanks. i thought that putting covers on pickups was more complicated than just... puting a cover on a pickup! as i understand it from what it says on the site you suggested, the 50mm covers are for humbuckers and the wider ones are for trembuckers, so i should be fine with the smaller ones. ...and, I should probably replace the, er, electonic part of the knobs, as they have quite a lot of crackle on them. But, I know nothing about this kind of thing so if someone could kindly push me in the right direction of what to buy from these id be grateful. (i need a volume and two tones, to fit a strack pickguard) Link thanks
  17. Hi, if this has been discussed before I apologise. I am planning to refit an old squier strat with humbuckers, I have found where i can buy a HH style pickguard and there is plenty of cavity space in the body, so the pickups shoud fit in just fine i think. What I would like to know is if THIS wiring schematic is right for me to work off. Im planning on getting seymour duncan SH-1 59's, and I just anted to make sure I knew what I was doing before i commit to anything. oh, and one other thing! I saw those pickups on www.guitarampkeyboard.com for £57 each + £6 p&p, but does anyone know anywhere in the UK that sells them cheaper? as a pair? or cheaply with chrome covers, which is what i wanted but GAK are charging an extra £20 per picup for chrome. Thanks
  18. Thanks for the help There are indeed a number of dinks and scratches, including one sizable chip in the finish. I was planning on filling those with a wood filler, or similar. In which case would it be advisable to prime, to avoid the paint going on differently to the different surfaces? Also, if I am painting over the original finish, am I right in thinking that it wont be necessarry to put on as thick a coat than if I were painting onto the bare wood?
  19. Hello, I am soon to be undertaking my first guitar finishing project on an old squier strat I have. Now, its an off-white cream colour, and I have had the suggestion from my dad that I take advantage of this, and when I repaint it I just sand it down to a matte finish without removing the paint fully, and then prime and paint and so forth over the top of that. His reasoning for suggesting it was that it would be taking advantage of the good quality finish thats already on it, so what i would be doing is really just changin the colour. Now, he doesnt actually know that much on the subject and neither do I, so I was wondering what someone who knows about these things would say about this idea. if i used paints that wouldnt react with the pre-existing finish, would it be ok?
