  1. Hi, im looking for a good custom decal company to do a headstock logo for me, preferably UK based (if you can go one better, preferably in the Leeds area ). The reason im making a new thread about this instead of gleaming information from old ones is that there are so many companies about that do this, i really dont know where to start. I was hoping some of you might be able to reccomend a good place to get this done, that youve had a good experience with in the past. Thank you
  2. its called Brush Script this was the first result on google: http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~jmo...script_font.htm its pretty good, ive had it myself for some time
  3. I feel like an absolute idiot. You are completely right, the site i bought the pickup from has the two types of pickup, it calls the wider ones "trembuckers". I just hope theyll allow me to make an exchange for the one I need. I really had no idea they came in different spacings.
  4. I have just fitted the bridge onto the strat i am rebuilding and have noticed something bad with the pickups. I have two Seymour Duncan SSL 2 Vintage single poles and a Seymour Duncan SH-1 59 humbucker in the bridge. The humbucker is not as wide as the other pickups, or the bridge, the poles dont fall in a straight line with everything else. I had no idea about this when i bought it. unless I can get a refund (which looks unlikely), am i completely screwed?
  5. that was the problem, thanks. it works now.
  6. A few weeks ago i made my first attempt at wiring up a guitar (a strat, HSS config) im nearing completion of the project and i wired the jack on today and plugged it in to test it in a very basic way, as a friend recommended. (just plug it in to check for buzzing, and tap the pickups to make sure theyre... doing something...) anyway, i have just plugged it in and as i half expected i was met by a great deal of buzzing, and crackling when i touched anything metal. i wired the guitar, I think, exactly to the diagram i used from the seymour website, so i hope its not anything to do with the wiring between components. I didnt have the bridge and associated bits on the guitar, so i didnt have everything earthed to it, but ive got everything earthed to the pots. is that enough or could my problem just be earthing? However, knowing near abouts nothing to admit to knowing nothing about electronics, and as i dont own a voltmeter (which i probably wouldnt know how to use), im at a bit of a loose end as to what to do. (If it would be better to take a picture of what ive done to show you how its wired, thats not a problem at all.) (and i hope that wasnt too garbled, i tend to ramble and be a bit scattery if i dont thoroughly plan what i write.)
  7. Hi, I was wondering what you would recommend to use when polishing a guitar body thats had cellulose paint and laquer put on it. The paint i bought was car paint, so one would assume that car polish would be best. But before i went ahead i thoguht i would just make sure there isnt a better way.
  8. thank you very much, youre a life saver.
  9. yes, thats exactly what its like. im to connect an earth to the sheilding then?
  10. its this diagram here that im using. my pickup has just one wire so this confuses me utterly http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/schem...s_1v_2t_5w.html
  11. Hello. I am trying to install a seymour duncan sh1 59 humbucker into my stratocaster, and have run into a problem. On every wiring diagram i posess, there are 4 wires coming out of the pickup. But mine only has one wire, with cloth and then metal sheilding. Two of the wires are connected to each other, so i suppose they arent really necessary to be on the outside. But i am still in need of an earth wire for the pickup and i was wondering if you could tell me what to do? Thank you.
  12. Thank you for your replies. I'll definitley go with the WD ones. Well, I was planning on getting a replacement set of strat knobs in black (as opposed to the white ones i have now), though they are out of stock at the moment. But with what you said about the pot shafts, PeteBuchan, I'll have a look at what else is on offer.
  13. Hi, i am about to make an order online for what will basically be a brand new fingerguard and all thats attatched to it for my stratocaster. I am going to be having a S/S/H (that is, humbucker in the bridge, i dont know which way round the abbreviation thing goes) configuration. And I live in the uk, so i dont really want to order from abroad. Right, with that out of the way... I am ordering pickups from one site (www.crazytrainmusic.co.uk) and all the plasticky bits from another (www.wdmusic.co.uk). Both sites sell re-wiring kits for strats, but one is significantly more expensive than the other. The more expensive one is, funnily, from the more expensive shop (wdmusic.com), so i dont know whether this hike in price is just because of the shop, or because the stuff is actually better quality. If im spending all this rediculous amount of money on pickups and kit, i want the best electronics. The pages for the two kits are: http://www.wdmusic.co.uk/shop/products.php...p;product=18414 http://www.crazytrainmusic.co.uk/Tone_Pots.html (scroll down a bit) In your opinions, what do you think? should i go with the cheaper option? i know i would like to! but i also want the best. (oh, and the pickups are 2 Seymour Duncan SSL 2 Vintage Flat pole for strat single coils, and a Seymour Duncan SH 1 59 Model humbucker, if that has relevance)
  14. First, thanks for the replies. And second, I have some questions. What is a kill switch? I dont know anything about electronics, im afraid, and evel less about the technical side of guitars. The SH-1 is indeed a humbucker, but it does not allow coil splitting. That being the case, what do the other suggested options do? (the phase control and operation in seriese)
