Jon
Looking great man. Hows the weight turning out with this one? Bubinga and Purpleheart are pretty heavy!
xtjdx
Wow, that purpleheart really balances everything out perfectly. Very very nicely done.

j. pierce
This looks beautiful. I'm always amazed by your work. Everything works so well together on this piece. Any insight into how you approach the carve on a single cut like this? I'm always enamored by the idea of one, but I'm just not sure how folks go about getting that half-shaped-neck sort of deal going on after the body joins up on the bass side. Seems like you need to join the body wings before shaping the neck in that area, but shaping the neck with everything joined also seems like a hassle. Are you just routing "lower" from the back in that area where the neck is, then shaping the treble side of the neck as usual, and blending everything together from there? RIM Basses
Hi guys, Things are coming together nicely on the bass, most of the hand sanding is done.Drilled out for the bridge and thru body stringing. The straplocks have been fitted also, About some of the questions asked by you guys, well weight wise this bass is a nice weight due to the lightness of the redwood top.Im guessing its gonna be around 7-8 lbs,for sure purpleheart and bubuinga are heavy woods but I just love the dark looking and sounding woods. About the singlecut method of build, Basicly I get the neck to the stage where everthing is done board etc, then I glue it to the wings. Then I ruff out the neck up to where it joins the top horn. From there I then set the whole bass up on my mill and ruff out for the high access, then I blend it all in using files, scapers and my DA sander. It take a while but its all worth it in the end! http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y131/otis...08072006843.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y131/otis...08072006842.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y131/otis...08072006841.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y131/otis...08072006844.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y131/otis...08072006837.jpg Hope this all helps, Cheers, Robbie. Slabbefusk
When you spray your coats do you lay your bass on one side and finish the side facing up, let it dry and then turn it over?
