chavo72
Just stripped the black poly off of an alder Charvel. Any suggestions on the best solvent for removing trace pigment from the grain? I'm planning a 3 tone burst on this one and want to get as clean a grain as possible. thanks
butnut
With those thick poly finishes, you need to get some clean remover (I usually use a coffee can) and a clean brush to 'spot' apply the remover. Let it soak a bit, use a ScotchBrite pad (these come in various 'grits' and rub it off. When you have all the stripper off and the bod looks clean, use a REMOVER 'WASH'. I use the Parks brand. I put some in a container (water clear/thin) get a new piece of ScotchBrite pad, dip it and scrub with the grain. Have some clean rags handy to wipe off right after. Do this a few times, wear gloves. Final wipe can be a clean rag dipped in the wash and wipe. This product will not raise the grain and cleans it up nicely.
chavo72
great, I'll try that. I've managed to do pretty well with Acetone thus far, but there's one spot that's giving me headaches. At a glance it's faint, but once I put that amber on it's likely to pop out.
