DracWell
Hey guys. I've finally gotten around to sand down the poor finish on my RG7620 (well, not yet, but I've got the tools now!). I'm thinking about staining the wood (sides+back=black, faux binding, green/blueish black on top), can I put on oil as finish or is there risk of the staining to rub off when the oil is rubbed off? Also, if using laquer (sp?), how do I get that satin feel that the RG1527 has on it's neck? Thinking about doing that to my RGs body instead of oil (seems safer). I fixed my necks high-gloss to satin by using a 240 paper, to do that on a new finish can I just stop at 240? Sorry for the wierd phrasing! Ben
can I put on oil as finish or is there risk of the staining to rub off when the oil is rubbed off? Theres definately some risk... since it happened to me. I've seen plenty of stained and oiled bodies though, so I think you'd probably be fine if you chose a compatible stain/ oil varnish. DracWell
Okay, is it okay to use something like Teak Oil? BTW. should the stain be water or oil based?
Jack Briggs
Okay, is it okay to use something like Teak Oil? BTW. should the stain be water or oil based? Oil based stains will be dissolved by lacquer solvents and migrate thoughout the finish.
