Ford Posted September 22, 2003 Report Posted September 22, 2003 So, uh... If I got two singlecoils, sat them next to each other (humbucker style), and wired/adjusted the magnets correctly, would that effectively land me with a humbucker of sorts? Or am I missing a step? The reason I ask is this (and maybe somebody could help me a bit): I basically want a bridge humbucker that would sound relatively "Gibson-ish," but then I could select just one coil and get a Telecaster sound. Meh. Probably is too much of a stretch, but I figured I'd ask. Thanks! Quote
Jehle Posted September 22, 2003 Report Posted September 22, 2003 We just had a thread about this very thing. We also had a thread about how to identify pickup phase. Hope these help... http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.ph...?showtopic=2457 http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.ph...?showtopic=2251 Quote
Little Bit Posted October 1, 2003 Report Posted October 1, 2003 Hang on here a second, A Humbucker isn't two pickups in series, out of phase. One pickup is reverse wound, reversed magnetic polarity, they are wired in series, forward phase. I believe on new Strats that the middle pickup is RWRP. Quote

It's flipping the magnets that puts it back in phase. Since he's starting with two single coils, the first step is to wire them in series, out-of-phase. The flipping the magnets on the out-of-phase pickup puts it back in-phase. Hope that makes more sense. Quote
