maggik24
I am building a jazz bass and am not sure about the best position to place my pickups. Is there an optimum position from the bottom of the bridge that they should be placed to achieve the best sound or is it a case of pot luck. My bass is 34" scale. Suggestions appreciated Please don't cross post identical posts in different sections of the forum. Your duplicate thread has been deleted. Thanks for your cooperation. Maurits
I would measure an actual Fender somewhere if posible.
al heeley
Tricky one, the closer to the bridge, the less amplitude of vibration the strings will have but pickups the furthest possible apart will have the widest tonal difference, which is presumably desirable. Like all such issues it ends up as a trade-off, and I guess uncle Leo did a pretty good job when he designed his instruments considering how little they've changed in the last 50 years.
