fyb Posted December 13, 2006 Report Posted December 13, 2006 I'm working on building a bass out of white ash. I'm still pretty new to building and finishing, but I've used Duplicolor products a few times before (once on a guitar refinish), and I was wondering if I could use something like their filler primer for grainfilling under a solid color coat. Here's some info about it ... http://www.duplicolor.com/products/premium.html What do you think? Quote
SJP Posted December 14, 2006 Report Posted December 14, 2006 I used duplicolor filler primer on my guitar, before the color coats, and it worked fine. Just make sure you sand it a little rough so your color sticks well. 240 or something. I'm new to finishing though, and I have only used the primer once. SJP Quote
Maiden69 Posted December 14, 2006 Report Posted December 14, 2006 not on ash! It will take tons of cans to get it nice. Use an epoxy better. Harder and fills in the pores almost complete on the 1st time thru. Quote
Southpa Posted December 14, 2006 Report Posted December 14, 2006 Thats a good point. Ash is pretty much the roughest and deepest grained guitar wood out there. I've had good success using Duplicolor primer, paint and clear over mahogany. I wouldn't mind trying a voodoo finish some day...when I get some ash. Quote
