archienogginhead Posted January 3, 2007 Report Posted January 3, 2007 I just wired in a Duncan Jazz at the neck and a Duncan JB in the bridge. It's a 2 Humbucker, 1 volume, 1 tone, 3-way setup. I followed the schematics on the Duncan site. Right now, both pickups and the 3-way work wonderfully and hum free!!! However, the tone pot does zilch. Could a bad .050 capacitor cause this? I had a couple of brand new pots and switched the tone pot out and it still doesn't work. I don't have any extra capacitors to check that out. Quote
Southpa Posted January 3, 2007 Report Posted January 3, 2007 I've never met a bad cap. Did you double check your wiring/wires? And the pot casing should be grounded as well. An ohmmeter does wonders in this case. Check between side lugs and center lug as well as ground. You should see the variable resistance sweep on your meter when you turn the pot knob. Sometimes its just a simple problem like a broken wire inside the insulation. Quote
modman Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 the above is true, either the signal is not reaching the pot or (more likely) tone pot is not correctly connected to ground. It should short high freqs to ground, so if it's not working and you're feeding it signal in the right way, ground is the problem. Quote
