amwarrior15
hello, so i recently decided that i want an ebony fretboard on my telecaster... the fretboard i have on now is rosewood and i was wondering if there is any way to paint it black and finish to look like an ebony fretboard... and if yes, i would also like to remove the standard pearloid inlay dots. any help or advice on this is greatly appreciated. thanks! Xanthus
http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Finishing_supp...oard_Stain.html http://projectguitar.com/tut/ebonize.htm Those will help you with your fake ebony idea. No clue how to remove the dots, though, aside from punching them out with a drill press and filling them in with the darkest wood possible, then staining the whole thing. Even so, now you have black rings in your fretboard with no guarantee of color/texture matching. If you're up for a fretting job, you might want to look into: http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Bodies,_necks,...ngerboards.html an unfretted, unprofiled, un-everything'd fretboard. Your choice. Another tip for tutorial and references: Search before posting. I'm not trying to be critical, but chances are, you're not asking a question that nobody else has brought up or answered. Most anything you need can be found on the main site, in the forums, or in the links section. Good luck

Doeringer
Amwar, you won't get much help around here with that attitude. He was helping you out. Many top manufacturers use the dye to make rosewood dark and even colored, but it is still fake ebony. He was not putting you down, just calling it what it is.
