You can change the tubes on the Epi --I've read somewhere that you can change the preamp tube (maybe the power tube too) and it'll give you a lot more room. I forget which type. Had an 'h' in it I think. Cheaper than any pedal you'll find. Try plugging into a bigger cabinet too --I plugged my VJ (combo) into a 2x10 and it was light and day. But I bought mine precisely because I needed it to break up at lower volumes --try a more powerful amp. I use a 15-watt otherwise, don't want any more than that.
