Allow Myself To Introduce...myself!

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone! Just wanted to introduce myself.

I play a Gibson Nighthawk, and I'm currently working on my first project guitar, a semihollow Tele.

Here's where I'm at so far:

Semi-Hollow Tele-

Body:

Hard ash body with Lyptus top

Neck:

-Padauk with cocobolo fretboard

-jackson style jumbo frets

-25.5 scale length

Pickups:

-GFS Mean 90 in the neck

-GFS Hot Rails in the bridge

Hardware:

-GFS Gotoh style tuners

-some kind of bridge(don't know where it's from)

-2 500k pots, unknon brand

-3 way switch, unknown brand

-GFS jack

-Some sort of cool strap locks, looks like GFS

I'm sort of building a jazz guitar. I'm sort of using Mike Stern's setup as an inspiration, although I'm definately putting my own spin on it. So far, it is together and playable, although it needs some work.

Work that it needs(and questions I'll be asking in the upcoming weeks after some searching ;-))

1)I got a little too ambitious when filing the nut to adjust the action. Needs a new nut. Thinking of going graphite to keep all my hardware black.

2)Needs a little soldering cleanup

3)Needs shielding from each pickup grounded. For some reason I left it ungrounded when I soldered everything up at first.

4)The biggest and most noticable flaw is the neck positioning. My neck is 55.5mm wide at the pocket, and my pocket is maybe 57mm wide. There is a gap, mainly near the top that offsets the neck by a bit making the strings sit towards the top of the neck(the low E side). See picture. When I was wanding the neck pocket to adjust the height, I did it by hand <---(would advise against) as I did not have access to a router. The corners of the pocket are rounded so I can't slide the neck all the way to the top of the pocket. I need to eventually find access to a router and make the corners of the pocket square, and then slide the neck upwards. Lastly, I'm going to need to have some sort of shim to fill the gap. I don't think I'll be able to do this myself, so I'll probably have to pay a luthier. Don't want to think about what it will cost.

Anyways, just wanted to say hello.
