darwinphilosophy
When I put the binding on of course you need to scrape it flush with the guitar. I was wondering what do you guys use for that? You can purchase them off stewmac(overpriced)but then it looks like you have to sharpen it to use it and I dont want to have to buy more things just to sharpen the scraper. So what should I use anything cheaper that I can get at like 'Home Depot' or something. Also an easy dumb question, I plan to stain the guitar, I stain it after I install the bindings right I just tape the bindings off and then stain it? Thanks again
maikman
i was reading a progress thread on another site (some tele site) and the guy used a random orbital sander w/200 grit to level the top, that might work if youve got a flat top
thegarehanman
You can sharpen a scraper blade with a screwdriver, you don't need a special tool. Do a bit of googling about scraper sharpening and you'll see what I mean. A scraper with a flat edge is ideal for scraping binding flush. Yes, install binding, then stain, then scrape. peace, russ
Mattia
scrapers are cheap, and shank on a broken/old carbide router bit is perfect for burnishing.
brewu22
Try here, I think I will buy a set next time I bind a guitar.
