Truss Rod Snapped

Recommended Posts

I've got a real problem now and any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a WD jazz bass neck ( double action truss rod maple neck ebony fingerboard ) that is on it's first break in set up after the bass' completion. I took it back to my builder to have him do a fretmill after it had all settled in and during the adjustment the truss rod's threads galled or seized and we could only get maybe a half turn one way or the other. After fighting it for about 30 minutes the end result was the welded on adjuster and a small part of the truss rod behind the anchor snapped off and fell out the back of the neck. It's still under tension with back bow on the neck. What I would like to know is how does one get it out and is there another style of truss rod that can be used in it's place and is this a common problem with that style of truss rod with the welded adjuster?

Thanks for any information you can provide Joe

Replacing a trussrod is really not that hard. You have to remove the fretboard with heat ;replace trussrod and reglue the fretboard.Search this forum and you will get detailed instructions and tutorials.Your builder should be able to do this in his sleep.Sounds like the nut was cross threaded before installation :D

Thanks for the reply. The lifting of the fretboard was one option we discussed. I'll take yor suggestion and check around the forum and see whats what. Thanks alot.
